Can I change my invalid corp key to a retail key? I have the retail disc but I don't want to do a clean install. I've read the article on changing the invalid corp key to a valid corp key.
Any ideas? I recall something about not being able to change from corp to retail. I hope that was incorrect.

YOu can change the key provided you have a good XP key. If this is a corporate copy and you have a legitamit reason to have it, you can use this article to change the PID

How to change the XP product Key

This does work perfectly, as I have tested it.

I have heard that you can't install a retail key on a corp copy. The retail CD is legit. So can i install a retail key # on a corp version?

The Corporate version of XP Pro is exactly the same as the retail version of XP Pro. The only difference is the key.Yes you can change a Volume licence key (Corporate) to a retail one that hasn't been used (activated). Where you run into problems is trying to change from a corporate key (XP Pro) to a XP Home version activation key.

The link to changing the key contains the following paragraph:

"* Product keys for XP Home Edition and retail versions of XP Professional will not activate a corporate version of XP Professional. "

    Is this correct or not?

    Cheers

    Graeme,
I've read that you can activate a Corporate copy of XP which is just a copy of XP Pro with a VLK (Volume licence key or Corporate key) with a legitimate (Not already activated) XP Pro key. But you cannot activate a Corporate activated XP (Pro) with an XP Home Key.
Disclaimer:- I haven't actually tried this so if you are looking to retain your current system and only change the key, be prepared to have to do a reformat and start from scratch if my research was flawed.
If you do some searches on the Net and other Newsgroups you should fing a lot of interesting (and some of it should actually be correct) information.

You know, the best way to find out is to try it.

Do a repair installation, which is to say, boot from your legitimate CD, and after the license agreement, choose to repair the XP installation that already exists.

Enter the key when it asks.

I can understand the difference between XP Home and XP Pro. Thanks for the suggestions.
Over the next couple of weekends I will try the repair methgod that you suggested Abraxas.
Any further thoughts from anybody else would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks for the ideas.
    Cheers
    Graeme
