My old PC motherboard went US but the hard drive is OK, so I am trying to transfer important info into the new PC - eg, Address Book, Favourites, etc.
I have copied Documents and Settings from the old drive into a partition on the new primary drive (C:) but Files and Settings Transfer refuses to accept that either the old disc (now connected via a USB) or the new partition contains any data!
I have searched for the address book file (extension .wab?) but no result - has something changed over the years? Also, when trying to copy my emails to the new system I searched for .dbx files, also with no result - however, I knew where they were and that exercise was succesful (by a VERY devious method).;)

Question 1: Where do I find the address book data?
Question 2: Where do I find my Favourites data?
Question 3: Why does Search tell me that .dbx, Outlook Express and .wab files do not exist?

    Hello Steve -
I tried the 'take ownership' trick but no joy. Note that XP says there is no data, not merely that the action is not allowed.
If I could find the .wab file I could simply copy it to the right place as copy works OK, but I don't know where it is. Does it still exist, or has something changed? If so, where is the address book data now? Ditto Favourites?

Address Book should be at .....

    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\xxx.wab

    Favorites - note American spelling :) ....

    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Favorites

    Hi Pete -
Fantastic - Address Book and Favo(u)rites now in position on new system !!! Any further info on why Search doesn't find .wab or .dbx? Because they are System files? If so that's a real pain as one is then stuck unless one can find someone such as yourself who actually knows where they are.

    Many thanks.

    Pleasure :)
Should find 'em if you include Hidden Files & Folders. I gave up on the Windows Search engine many moons ago using first the freeware AgentRansack and currently their Pro version - File Locator Pro.

I'm a bit ahead of you there, Pete. I already tried including hidden files etc. - no difference. Thanks for the suggestion re another 'Search' program, I'll give it a whirl.

It's not the first time I've heard of Windows Explorer Search failing to find files :)

Once again, Pete, I owe you a considerable debt of gratitude - losing my Address Book would have been a disaster. None of my reference works tells me where to find it. However, I should have thought of the US of A spelling of 'Favourites'. Unpardonable !!

Regards - and long live Windows BBS !!
