Well this happened thursday after the update. I was in the middle of a webcam with my relatives and the update popped up so i canceled it. After the session, i opened firefox but the "Unable to connect" to their main site came up. I reinstalled it but still it did not succeed. I spent atleast 2 hours browsing through google trying to find an answer but still nothing happened. I hate IE so i downloaded other browsers such as Opera and Google Chrome but somehow they could not connect to the Internet as well. So this is a coincidence it happens the day of the Firefox update??? I really dont no but i restored it to a week ago last night before the problem was prevalent but it still did not work. Right now the only browser that works for me is Internet explorer. I connect fine to the internet on Itunes and other apps but firefox, opera, and google chrome all or not working or connecting to the internet. I went to windows firewall, the only 1 i think i have and set an exception as said so to firefox but it still did not work.

    Hi castiel10,

Since IE works, and you were in the middle of webcaming, I'd suggest unplugging the webcam and see if you can connect.

If no joy, uninstall FF and Google from everywhere (use CCleaner to root out the leftovers)(save your address book, bookmarks, passwords, etc.) then reinstall FF and see if you can connect. If you can, then reinstall a clean copy of Google.

If no joy, please post back.

ok i ran CCcleaner and deleted everything possible about firefox and google. aka toolbars, programs, history. i then reinstalled firefox and let my firewall allow me to press the option to "Unblock it" since it was a new program. but i still get the "failed to connect" but IE works fine

You said that you had a Firefox update. From what to what?
Try to locate the parent.lock file in the profile, with Firefox closed, and deleted, especially if there is anything in it. My file has 0Kb.
    Then try to open Firefox.
As Googlr Chrome and Opera go, I have no suggestion. Regardless, uninstalling the programs, without removing the profiles, accomplishes nothing.

You removes the parent.lock file? If no joy, try to create a new profile.

I looked at the error log of Google Chrome, and checked the significance of the files listed: I got the following links: for mscorwks.dll. for dfdll.dll. And for dfshim.dll. You are using Vista, while I use XP.
All files point to bad Registry. System Restore may not be enough.
My dfdll.dll was part of Microsoft.ne/framework

Hey Westside- how are you? Baking yet?

The only way to truly completely remove FF, Google Chrome, whatever, is to do a registry edit, and not with CCleaner or any tools. One must get brave and do it oneself.

To stay out of trouble, what I do is choose terms and then in Regedit, I click on Find and enter the terms, e.g., for FF, I would search on "Firefox" and then again on
"Mozilla ". Since I have also SeaMonkey, I would need to check any line that said Mozilla, the whole path shows at the bottom, and make sure that it is not for SeaMonkey.

Any line of code that doe not have in it the specific word I am searching, I skip over.

Again, one can read the whole path at the bottom. This is important because if searching on Chrome, that is a term used in Mozilla Gecko browser, along with being used by Google for their browser.

When baking, put feet in a bucket of icewater.

    Hi Richard,
today it is going to be the last day of the baking session. Steam heat is the worst to take.
As for your suggestions, they are right on. ccleaner does not do much to the Registry. I don't know if it is necessary to remove everything, but I cannot pass judgment on a Vista system.

Have you checked your program listings for firewall names to make sure you are not running two firewalls? Did you ever use a security suite from Norton or Mcafee or Trend Micro or another security suite or firewall on this computer? Did you uninstall? With Norton, McAfee and Trend Micro there are special removal tools for uninstalling these products. Perhaps a second firewall is still on the computer and is blocking the new version of firefox.

Take a look at this post. That person figured out that there were two firewalls, one of which was forgotten. Think that you may have been in the same boat.

Yes, as I said, make sure that the word "Firefox" is there, if you want to do the same with "Chrome ", the browser, search on "Chrome ", but make sure that the line does not refer to anything else where Chrome is just a folder, as it is in Firefox and SeaMonkey.

If you do "Mozilla ", make sure the line refers to Firefox, not some other Mozilla product, like Thunderbird.

I am pleased to see that Westside, for whom I have the greatest respect, has confirmed to you what I said. He is, as we say, "The Man ".
