Sea Monkey 2.03, as well as other programs like Thunderbird mail often take a really long time to load. Is there any problem with minimizing these programs to Tray when they are not being used, so that they pop up instantly when needed? Does this drain resources, affect performance?

I read in another post I cannot now find that one can speed up the initial start of Sea Monkey, by adding /prefetch -1 to the command in your icon shortcut. Any problem doing this?

    Thanks for your help.

    Please, post some computer info:
    - processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo key, hit Pause/Break key)
    - hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer ", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties ")
    - security programs in use (antivirus, firewall)

How many add-ons do you have there? Do you use GreaseMonkey?

And, what is Seamokey2.0.3? The last I heard, it was available as a nightly, as 2.0b1.
I have not seen a final version.
And, what is a "long time "? I check my mail gtwice each day, and, rarely, do anything with it in between, but if the loading time is extremely long, like minutes, may be minimizing may be an answer.

    Slow Loading

I downloaded SM 2.0a3 from SM website. I don't know what "nightly" is. Is 2.0b1 a later version?

"Slow" means up to 20 seconds sometimes. (Am I being unrealistic?)

I don't check mail very often, but I do access the Internet often, so I like to have it readily available.

    Slow load

Typo in last post. When SM is loading slowly, it can take up to 50-60 seconds. On a "fast" day, it's usually about 20.

Go Start>Run (Start Search in Vista), type in:
    msconfig
Click OK (hit Enter in Vista).

    Click on Startup tab.
    Click Disable all

    Click Services tab.
Put checkmark in Hide all Microsoft services
    Click Disable all.

    Click OK.
    Restart computer in Normal Mode.

NOTE. If you use different firewall, than Windows firewall, turn Windows firewall on, just for this test, since your regular firewall won't be running.
If you use Windows firewall, you're fine.

    Same problem?

Broni: Have been unable to do this for past few days due to illness. Will get to it shortly. However, before I do, please let me know where we are going. If I do all these things and SM loads faster, what next? Do we load each program separately, re-start and see what happens? If that's the case, I'll need a fair amount of time for this project. (Re-start takes forever, too.) And when it's all done, is it as easy as clicking an "enable" button to get all these services back online where they were? Or do I need to note which ones were checked and re-check them? Can I do a System Restore before doing any of these steps and get back to where I started?
    Thanks again for your help.

I simply want to see, if you disable all non-Microsoft startups, and services, your startup will be fatser.
I can't predict what next. It depends on what will happen.

I hope, you're doing better health wise :)

BTW, you didn't say how much RAM you have.

    Davidcal,
I did not see all the replies which followed mine. Too hot to do anything! Even inside. A nightly is precisely what it says. It not a final version, and it may be a workup by one developer.. If you can give a link to 2.0.3, I would appreciate. I had no idea that a final version had been released. I know of a Flock2.0.3, but not Seamonkey. Flock is a Firefox with a twist. For me a 20 sec. loading time. is average, for any program.
I found it, and, after reading the page, I realized that it was a Seamonkey2.0alpha3, as corrected in message 5. Quite preliminary. The nightlies I use are 2.0beta1, so a step ahead of alpha3.
