Some one sent me an email the other day so I replied back
The person sent me an email back saying they were going to call me since they did not know how I would know their email address.

The person almost sounded disturbed that I had their email address.

After ll, all I did was hit reply and send them an email in return. It was as they were stating they had some security attached so I woud not know their email.

Please keep in mind this person has never emailed me before and I did find their email in my spam with a red warning on (which I never seen before) it stating that the email may not be from who it says it is.

Can someone send me an email without me having the ability to return it????

I posted under here because it seemed they were trying to take some security precautions!

    I am confused!!?

    Thank you!!

Your post really isn't very clear and so its hard to interpret exactly what has happened here.

It is fairly easy to 'spoof' an email address, i.e. send an email that appears to come from someone elses domain name. In addition, when setting up an email client (such as Outlook), I can specify my REPLY TO address to be whatever I like - this would cause the receiver of an email to end up replying to someone they didn't expect to reply to.

This is very common practice for spammers, they send mass emails that appear to come from a domain name that they don't own which does indeed cause confusion.

For instance, if I went into Outlook I could change my FROM address to 'joe@bloggs.com' and my REPLY TO to 'ash@happy.com'. If I then sent an email to you, it would appear to have come from Joe, but when you click reply it'll actually go to Ash.

Does that make sense and perhaps help to explain your email oddity?

    1. Person A sends an email to Person B.
    2. Person B has a trojan or virus that harvests email addresses.
    3. Trojan sends addresses to spammer who spams the list, or trojans spams list directly from Person B's computer.
    4. You receive a copy of the spam.
    5. You reply.
    6. Person A wonders how you got his email address.

Often, email trojans will send spam to all addresses found on Person B's comp. The trojan mailer uses addresses found as the To, From & Reply To fields, randomly changing them so as to mask where the messages are being sent from.

    Thanks guys if it helps
1The email sent to me was not a mass produced email but a personal one from someone who I knew.

2-person A who sent the orginal email to me - (when I hit reply to respond to their original email it was a simple yahoo email address if that helps anyone. If not, then I am sure I will find out the answer sooner or later. I was simply wondering if a person A has the ability to send a personal email to person B and person A block their email adress.

    Thanks again.

Tony, I liked your saying in your profile about accepting someone elses truth. I agree.

You say that the message was in your spam folder from someone who has never e-mailed you before and yet your opened it up and replied? It seems to me that this is not a very wise thing to do. In fact, it's a guaranteed way of getting on a spam list and/or picking up a virus/trojan/what-have-you. If something is in your spam folder from someone you do not know... best to leave it there unopened and ultimately to delete it. If it's important, the person will find another way of contacting you. Curiosity killed the proverbial cat, you know. ;-)

Once again, I'm sorry but your responses make very little sense, they're just not clear and so its very hard to work out what on earth your actual problem is.

Please type concisely, perhaps use bullet points for facts/statements - perhaps at that stage we will be able to assist with some accurate advice.

Yes, but they must do the blocking at their end, they cannot block you from sending to any address.
