    Hi Verdi

To review! Don't worry about the slow down unless it stays!

One of the messages in events comes from safe mode and ie normal. The other could be depending on how xp is setup! But for now is no problem!

Do both the Adaware I sent link, and spybot from Newt's message! Adaware 1st!

Something I usually check when I am having slow connections to SOME sites (or even if to all of them) is the Internet Traffic Report which is nearly real-time conditions for the entire world. You can drill down to a specific region for details.

I frequently find that a site I'm haveing problems with is near several of the major internet routers that are having difficulty.

For instance, right now in London
zcr1-so-1-0-0.Londonlnt.cw.net and gblon523-tc.ebone.net are down and the other two aren't exactly screaming along. The other 6 major UK ones are running but four are in the yellow. And Europe overall has high traffic levels, high packet loss, and much slower than average response time just now. So, I would expect a UK site to be maybe somewhat slow.

    today is the day :)

OK today is the 1st time i will leave on online... sorry for the omission, yes i did get adaware and spybot, adaware i have used before, and is installed and running, scan on bootup, though yet to install spybot.
will defrag tonight, and throughout the day i will look at newt's suggestion "Internet trafficreport" with a little fear and tread slowly and carefully... MAN scary stuff ahead :-(

Still as the old philosophical saying goes ...
    "To infinity and beyond" :)

    Cheers guys :)

P.S. I love this site, so much help and education, "Most excellent "

    Ah ha!!!!!

    Now we have it!

    Kazaa! Verdi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Verdi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Verdi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You said you used Adaware! Do you have it set up to do full deep scans! If so you will find spyware and adware related to kazaa!

Get the latest signatures from Lavasoft and make sure you have the latest engine ver 5.83. If you do not have the latest engine properly uninstall your older ver and redownload 5.83 and this will get you latest signatures/def files also!

Then for sure do the Spybot now and after you install it go to options and download latest defs, before you run it select all it shows except the languge ones unless you need one of these for some reason!

After you do this! I would "suggest" that you uninstall kazaa and use WinMX which is leaner faster and comes with no ad or spyware. To this add a program called napmx which adds napster servers to Winmx! Wa lal! Find more files faster no baggage!

Hello, verdi . It looks like you may be flailing a bit, so I thought I'd interject a few ideas.

The bug code, d1, that you mentioned in your first post indicates a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error.

What NIC card are you using and have you gotten XP drivers for everything or trying to run some Win2k drivers?

    In the meantime:

You could try deleting your page file by setting it to "0" or "No Page File and rebooting. Then set it to "System Managed" and reboot again.

Install this update if you have not done so:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=36920

Let's re-examine this situation. Be careful what you delete by using Ad-aware, SpyBot, or any tmp files. You will need to use some judgement there to prevent inactivating some of your software. Something is not "spyware" if you are aware of it. Some .tmp files are needed and some are even executable. Disk Cleaner is the best way to clean the temp directory since it only cleans out tmp files that have not been used in a while and leaves any that may still be needed. That is why it occasionally doesn't seem to "work "---it is protecting you from yourself.

I think we should look at drivers.

You still did not say if you are running Adaware in deep mode scan!

Do another (not the bootup) but full scan check every option except floppy and CD!

On WinMx it requires a full install (some nusence but is quick!) of each revision older versions seem to quit working when new ones come out. If you decide to try again uninstall Kazza and reclean the spy/adware and don't froget the napmx program which broadens the finds!

Or maybe WinMx was not set up properly for broadband! Specially if you have the XP firewall activated!

The things spybot found! I would select fix and see what spybot leaves then let us look at that!

If somethig quits working after cleaning (it will not be a windows system item) then it had spyware, and we will deal with correcting that!

I did not notice Abraxas's message last ime I posted to you! But that is excellent advice on the pagefile!

But I thought we were past this error? Are you still getting this?

If so we all need to get back to that! Of course the cleaning will make that easier!

As to Abraxas's suggestion/opinion about spyware etc. I don't totally disagree! I especially agree with the statement of other temp files outside of TIF or Windows\temp! I think in one of my earlier messages I mentiond this to you, but it may have been to someone else!

But I am agressively against spy/adware but will use a program with spyware/adware if I have no other choice, but then I keep an eye on it! But this is easier for people with the experience of Abraxas and myself!

I have generally found that I remove everything then deal with what don't work. On it's lowest level this pinpoints the problem program!

Another problem with spy/adware programs is that they sometimes fight amongst them selves or with a legitimate program and indierctly cause a problem!

    phew ...

My brain is getting HOT :-( but enjoying the problem solving :)

    Whats a NIC card...
have installed complete XP Pro, not an upgrade

have done the following update from your link...
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ReleaseID=36920

in spybot i went for "fix all prob,s "

and i thought i tried this one before...

You could try deleting your page file by setting it to "0" or "No Page File and rebooting. Then set it to "System Managed" and reboot again.

is it OK to try again, or should i do it in some correct order, I'm getting so confused, i welcome any suggestions, and apologise for my inefficiency, and praise your patience, (might catch up with you guys in a coupla light years from now) but for now i am going to reboot and attempt kazaa d/load to see if spybot has cured problem.

    many, many thanks

yours exhausted, but ever willing Jon :)

Yes, mflynn . It is difficult to know exactly what to advize sometimes. I am always tempted to outline what I would do in a similar situation, but even if I know how to recover from any untoward results, I certainly don't want to prolong the suffering of the original person with the problem.

I guess I am just not so worried about "spyware" or "adware" as I used to be. I have a couple "spyware" programs installed that have simply been blocked from internet communication, and they work fine. But that sometimes needlessly complicates things in a problem-solving situation.

And, I am actually in favor of some of these things---it really is true that some programs report anonymous usage statistics that help the developers improve the product for us (WinAmp, for example).

It is always a delicate matter of judgement.

    Ok Verdi

Slow down & relax we are here to help not to put pressure on you!

Really you do not have a severe problem because I get the feeling that in general everything else seems to be OK!

I don't think you have been doing proper house cleaning before "remember your Temp floder" but you are learning!

So chill out! Have a cup of Tea! I'll have coffee, Abraxas hot Rum! Smile!

    2 questions!!

Are you doing the full "deep" manual scan (not bootup scan) in Adaware? And are you sure it is up to date!

    Do we still have the

The bug code, d1, that you mentioned in your first post indicates a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error

    that Abraxas mentioned!

Abraxas asked about a nic (network interface card)!

Reboot certainly couldn't hurt and might help.

Also - since you were happy with KaZaA except for the harmful things it did, take a look at KaZaA Lite which is similar but different folks wrote it and it is spyware free.

    ¬^*(!_+>~:<

am still wrapped up in this problem solving and WANT to resolve...

Are you doing the full "deep" manual scan (not bootup scan) in Adaware? And are you sure it is up to date!...
yip on both counts, manual scan memory, deep scan registry, and c:\ drive :)

    Do we still have the
The bug code, d1, that you mentioned in your first post indicates a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error

how do i check, do i run event viewer, as i type this i went and did so and found in application 10 true vector error's ( i think this may be since i run spybot... dunno) and still the 2 in system...
    service control manager and DCOM

Abraxas asked about a nic (network interface card)!

have just looked in device manager and found...
SiS 900 PCI fast ethernet adaptor ... when i know i have
alcatel speedtouch USB ADSL PPP i note if i right click on SIS etc, i can uninstall from there, should i do so?
Also other devices (Big bad yellow ?)
PCI modem, should i do the same.

and finally have yet to do paging to 0 etc,

Plus any tips on using winmx as the interface has changed since i used it last, someone chatted to me suggesting entering .wsx for faster servers ???

    Ok!

    Verdi

You need a break! To uptight, too caught up here! Smile!!

1st, you received the original error on your first post where you asked about the page file!

How do you know if you have it still???????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well!!!! do you get the error during boot or while running a program???? If you don't forget that one!

No do not remove the asdl modem, some possibility you may not get back online easily!

Unless you have a need for a phone modem immediately leave that alone also for now!

You need to boil it down for us! Tell us exactly what don't work now, and when! Only what you see as you use the computer, let us do the diags!

Also run thru some other programs that you use make sure everything else seems OK!

How is the system in general, is booting up and shutting down OK? Is the general performance normal? Not counting Kazaa!

Does the problem boil down now to the problem with Kazza rebooting?

If so then we have no choice it seems to me but to completely uninstall it reboot and do another adaware/spybot clean? Why another spyware/adware scan because on uninstall some of these type of programs will add a little hook or somting to try to hang on or get you back! Other choice, live with it if it is Kazaa!

After uninstall and reboot you should actually search for anything named kazaa*.* and get rid of it befoere you go on!

WinMx will use limewire, napster and gnunella servers if set up properly and the NapMx program is used!

But maybe you should go with Newt's suggested Kazza Lite! You are familiar with Kazaa this may be best for you! I have never used the lite ver but I have full confidence in Newt!

So take a break and calmly get back with a status report! We seem close now!

    mike
