I just migrated to Vista 64-bit and have (re)installed Office 2007 on my new machine. I have noticed a few oddities about MS Outlook on this platform.
    1. The mail notification icon does not appear in the system tray. (I think it did initially.)
    2. When new mail is retrieved, it no longer appears immediately in the Inbox window. I have to switch away to something like the Junk Mail folder and then switch back to the Inbox in order to see any new messages. Even then, not all the new stuff shows up until I have dealt w/ a few items. (Delete, Move to another folder, etc.) Like the problem above, I believe that this was working correctly to begin with.

Since both items were -- to the best of my reccollection -- working immediately after the install & transfer of my *.pst files from my old system, I am inclined to think that this may be a "settings" issue. OTOH, the two items above stopped working correctly early on and there were more than a few updates & patches from MS in the days following the move so it could indeed be a Vista thing.

Any suggestions/leads/etc. would be gratefully appreciated.

    1. Did you look through Tools->Options and make sure the new mail notification is enabled?

Have you install all of the service packs for Windows and Office?

I've installed everything that MS has sent to me.

By way of follow-up, I would like to report that Outlook is working properly again. About 5 days ago, I ran the Office Diagnostics. They (The Diagnostics) did not report anything as being wrong but the next morning, Outlook was working correctly again.

I have absolutely no idea what happened or what was fixed but I guess that we can consider this issue to be closed.
