    Is RC2 (128bit) encryption better than 3DES?

I've been nosing around the innards of my computer again & in my security settings for my OE I have several Encryption options. RC 2 (40 bit), RC2 (64bit), RC2 (128 bit), DES, & 3DES.

Now I hope I am right in figuring that RC2 (128 bit) is best of the RC2's & that 3DES is best of the DES ones, but the dummy that I am about encryption, I don't actually know which is better between RC2 (128bit) & 3DES. I don't know anything about encryption algorythms, except that Blowfish is supposed to be good, but that's not one of my options. :)

Can someone kindly inform this encryption illiterate person of which one to choose. :D

Basically, you don’t get to pick the encryption method - the person you’re sending a message to does!

Example: I want to send you an encrypted message. Firstly, I’ll need to obtain a copy of your public key DID which I can get either from you or from a key server to which you have uploaded (if you don’t have a public key, I cannot send you an encrypted message). That public key will include details of your S/MIME capabilities and default algorithm. When I send you a message, (my) OE will look at your public key and encrypt the message accordingly.

    Okey, Dokey. I think I misunderstand. :D

Thanks brett for the information. It's good that I don't have to worry with changing anything.

I poke around a lot & asking questions is the only way to learn, other than accidently deleting the wrong file, which I've done in the past. Boy was that loads of fun. :D

Good. Maybe. But possibly bad

BTW - you do, of course, need your own DID before any of the above is possible. Most companies charge for DID's. Thawte is, AFAIK, the only company which provides 'em for free.
