    Hi
I have been trying to defrag my computer but disk defragmenter won't even open. I click on it and the hard drive light comes on like it is trying to do something but nothing happens. I have tried to run it in safe mode but still nothing. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks
    Sharon

How much of a free space do you have on your hard drive?

sometimes Disk Defragmenter not longer runs correctly when you install a third party defragmenter like Diskeeper.
do you have smth like that?

The Windows native disk defragmenter was written by the Diskeeper people - Executive Software in those days. Invoking Disk Defragmenter fires up Diskeeper if installed. Other third party defragmenters may well behave differently though.

I have 12.7 GBS free on a 105 GB hard drive. Does anyone know anything about AusLogics Disk Defrag?

Auslogic Defrag is good, but you're running low on free hard drive space, and it may be the reason, regular defrag doesn't want to work.
Defrag needs at least 15% of a free space - 15GB in your case.

I now have 18.7 GBS free, turned off anti-virus, spyware and sidebar. Still won't open. I'm getting frustrated!

Get rid of malware, run AV scans and download a good spyware scanner. If you are using Diskeeper, it should work even with less than 15% free space.
What about chkdsk? Try that before the defrag.
