I have had many problems since April 29 and the download of the new IE8. I ended up needing a new hard drive; my problem with the Windows Sidebar clock may have been related to this. I have been interested in the DPI issue and whether custom settings will work in Vista. I now have my DPI set at 120 and the clock is working well, although I get some Sidebar characters distorted (temp in weather gadget) -- not very often, though. After the most recent Vista SP#2 update I have the following "optional" update showing. Does anyone have any knowledge regarding this optional update? Should I go ahead and accept it? Not sure. Will wait.

Hi fourdoor2041, you have nothing to worry about regarding the update. It's just an updated driver for your onboard LAN. If you don't want to update the driver and are nagged by it showing over and over, you can use the "hide update" option in Windows Update. However, I'd suggest going to nvidia.com and downloading the latest drivers for your NForce chipset, including LAN (as it seems you have a LAN driver older than August 2008: "DriverUpdate: nVidia Network software update released in August, 2008" ).

windows clock gadget second hand does not work when system dpi customized

This is Windows operating system problem and not a third party manufacturer graphics card driver update issue. This is a Windows Vista bug that has not been addressed by Microsoft. Customized dpi is one of those features since Windows OS was historically developed that has never received enough attention. For example, if you change your fonts to a dpi of 104%=100dpi from the standard 96dpi, all sorts of bugs will start to surface in the GUI when rendering both in the Windows desktop and some third-party applications. It seems that no matter how many beta testers there are, the issues are never resolved, and Microsoft always ignores the issue or plays that really obnoxious "blame-shifting" game and just says, "Oh, that's a problem with your graphics card manufacturer's drivers..." That is a bunch of cow chips!!! I am testing Windows 7 Release Candidate in a Virtual Machine and haven't played around yet with the customized dpi but I will do so and post a note here to see if it has gotten any attention since Vista SP2 (but based on the past, don't count on it). Hey Microsoft, why don't you fix this bug for all of us loyal Windows users once and for all?
