As a side note to the system diag tools I need for the Presario issue (see here), I have a rather contrived issue. As when I redid the entire PC, I had to use a XP disc of my own, we are getting the WGA issue. How can I change the WGA code to the original one on the case? I tried the deactivating trick, but the code did not change.

    Regards,
    Luke

That didn't work. It is probably due to the fact that the copy of Windows had also been installed on like 8 other hard drives at various points, but would there be any other way of it working? Seeing as that CD key (the one I tried to change to) is already registered to a version of XP that doesn't exist any more as well...

That may well be the problem.

Damnit, so there would be no way of sorting this, short of paying for a new CD code (of which it would be a waste of time, as far as I'm concerned)?

Reviewing this thread, there may be a little ambiguity at play here. Although WGA is referenced multiple times, this appears to be more of a problem focused on the product activation key on the COA sticker. Granted, they are related in that WGA is tied to the same key, however, I read this as the initial problem (activation) has to be dealt with before WGA can be addressed. And, from the sound of things the only option may be phone activation and that's going to require some good salesmanship on the part of Lukeno1.

If Microsoft will provide a new key, WGA is a secondary issue if its an issue at all. I think everyone understands what the problem is, but technically, the semantics are wrong. My experience has been that Microsoft is very fair about this.

    ;)
