I had to install Vista x64 on my new system whit a RAID 0 Marvell SAS. Vista would install fine, while Windows 7 insists "Can't install to this location: error 0x80300001 ".

After installing Vista I was able to upgrade to Windows 7 using build 7077.

I tried a clean install with the RC build, but got the same error, so I'll have to do the Vista "upgrade" again :(

Upgrading build 7077 to RC (using a work-around) failed with a 0x000000F4 error.

I did a clean install on my laptop, when I have that system up & running again (with all my software) I'll attempt the Vista > Win7 RC upgrade on my desktop system.

I did the workaround and changed the version to 7000. Did the upgrade. Somewhere along the way, I had left the room for awhile, I thought it had finished but actually it had not. So I was still on the beta. However, it did change the build to 7000. So I ran setup again and did the upgrade a second time. This time it ran a long time and completed successfully. The build is not 7100. Seems to be working ok.

Mine worked fine (30 mins). I tried both x86, and x64. No problems. I see it's in your updated profile now. Nice setup. Was it a driver that didn't like 7 in your massive setup?

No idea. Most likely its Win7 setup routine. Microsoft hasn't responded, so I probably never know. Would hope they fix it before RTM. Would hate to have to "foul" up my system with Vista in order to upgrade it to Win7 instead of a Win7 clean install.

Yea, I'm still on the fence. Vista Ultimate SP2 is humming along quite nicely. Why mess with a good thing, but then there's the "gotta have it yesterday" itch to be resolved lol...

Definitely don't upgrade, albeit this version of Windows is probably the safest to upgrade, as Windows Vista and Win 7 are so alike.

I like the RC so far...so the RTM will be next I take it. Although developers are likely going to be amongst the many who will download the RC come 5/5, so will there even be an RTM? If history is any indication, then there will be. If so, any idea as to an ETA???

Ehhh... for the software to hit the shelves there has to be an RTM (Release To Manufacturing)!

    No official ETA yet.

I hope Arie might be able to shed some light on this for me, when I installed Windows 7 onto a spare 80 GIG HD that I had sitting around it had Windows XP Pro installed on it but nothing of importance, as in traditional fashion I expected to be given the option to Format. To my surprise though it was not a option Windows 7 recognized an existing OS and simply informed me that it will enclose the old OS into a small partition called old, and that I will not be able to access the old OS but all my Files, Folders and Programs will be untouched, and it is so. I did not look for a upgrade I was after a clean install but I am very happy with what I have it runs very well and stable.
Question when Windows 7 hits the shelves will a Retail copy put RC1 into a capsule like it does now with XP or will that require a real clean install removing RC1 and all its remnants.

Probably depends on how you started the install. If you boot odd the DVD I think you'd be able to format. But I've not done an install on a WinXP machine.

Windows XP is not a supported OS for an upgrade.

The RC will require a clean install going to RTM.

Hey Arie, is the machine listed as "My System" the one you use to work & play, so your main machine for your computing needs? If so, is 7 x64 doing a good enough job for you?

I never use my computer for 'play', it's a work tool.

Yes, of course Win 7 x64 is doing the job. Like Vista before it, just a little better :)

You'd never catch me using x86 again :D

I too would love to do the x64 install of Windows RC,(the beta installed without problems) however, nothing I've tried to this point has allowed me to install it :(. I'll keep trying. This forum is really more informative than technet. Thanks for everyone here.

Update: I have got the x64 Windows 7 RC installed and working. Finally figured out what the problem was. PEBCAK. Several months ago I was having the same problem doing a clean install of Ubuntu x64 and after several days of not being able to install it, one of the fine people on the Ubuntu forums suggested that I check the BIOS and make sure the memory remapping feature was enabled. I did and the thing installed without a hitch. Some how over the months the settings had been changed back to default and this was the thing that was causing the problem with the Win 7 RC install. I enabled it and installed Win 7 RC in about 20 minutes. Call me a happy camper. :) Can't wait for the RTM

What happened?? Win 7 not working again?? Don't mean to needle you. I'm interested in experiences of other people with the product to see if I should upgrade all of my systems now...or later.

    Thanks! ;)

What is this memory re-mapping feature? The BIOS on my Asus A8V-X doesn't have it. However, all betas, and the RC have installed faultlessly, and I certainly will be installing the final version when it becomes available.
I am a bit of a software freak, playing with all sorts of programmes and betas, and since the first beta of Windows 7 none of them have crashed, although it takes a little time to get used to the new interface - libraries etc..
