Have a most unusal circumstance. Internet Explorer 7 loads, and bookmarks are present. Any bookmark that is not in a folder can be opened. However bookmark folders do not display the individual links within the folder. The folder simply does not display.

Does anyone have any knowledge of a fix for this?

    Pete,

Thanks. This is incredible! The thought to open \Documents and Settings\username\favorites was brilliant.

Now I usually use Firefox, but have been having some problems with it. It lost all my bookmarks. That's why I went back to Internet Explorer, as many of them were there. But of course it had the problem I wrote about. When I opened the Favorites file, I had access to the bookmarks. It looks as if it's the ones in Firefox.

Now, I'm everlasting grateful to relocate them, but of course I am sill confused as to why in Internet Explorer I can see and connect to any link that isn't in a folder, but cannot open a folder to see a number of links that I placed there.

Thanks ever so much for your reply. If you or anyone else though has a notion as to why the folders don't open, I'd like to know.

Yes, exactly. The folder is present, but clicking on it does not open it. I am getting closer to a solution, and post this in case it helps anyone else.

I am using Zone Alarm Extreme Security, which has browser protection. I was able to retreive my bookmarks in FireFox by temporarially opening the browser, clicking on Zone Alarm Extreme Security, and under "settings," advanced tab unchecking the box for virtualization. That allowed my bookmarks.

Then when they were restored, I could again check virtualization. IN Internet Expolorer I can open the folders when I disable virtualization, but lose the ability again when I restore virtualization.

Obviously this is a Zone Alarm problem, and I'll take it up with them.
