win could not start, file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\config\system,

repair by using original setup CD-ROM

Here's the problem, we don't have a setup CD.

    Now what??

    How do I re-install windows XP if I don't have a CD?
    It's a Dell Inspiron 6000

    thanks

Contact Dell and get a cd. They're either free or ten bucks. You can also borrow one from a friend as long as its the same Home or Pro edition.

AFAIK you can make a repair install of XP using another install CD of the same SP level, but using your COA of course.

Failing that you will need to contact Dell for a CD.

    THANKS!

    Calling Dell ASAP...

Looks like I can request the discs free, which I have done.

They also have an F11 method that will wipe out ALL information on the computer.

If I do a re-install of windows from the CDs, will I loose all my info?

    Thanks

The F11 option sets it back to factory defaults...thus losing all of your data.

    Broni

I do all this on another computer to create the CD, right?
Then use that CD on the broken computer, right?
Will I loose data on the broken computer?

    Thanks
