Hi, I have about 20 PCs here at work, all with Windows XP Pro SP3, and only a portion of them does it do anything at all when I go to print to the shared FAX via Microsoft FAX...

I've been trying to get it to work on mine first, then once I figure that out, I can get it working on the rest of them... So, I went to one of the computers that it does work on to find some files that my system said it was missing when I tried to open up the Microsoft FAX Console... these files were, FXSAPI.DLL, FXSTIFF.DLL, fxslnt.exe. Once I copied those to my system, the Microsoft FAX Console would open up, but still it did nothing when I would try to print to the shared FAX. I noticed in the configuration it was set to use my Sprint Aircard as a fax, so I disabled it and went through the configuration again, so that it wouldn't have a local fax to try to use, but that still didn't work...

I have been all over the internet and have spent several hours trying to make this work ... My boss is very adament that I get this working... I would appreciate any assistance in this matter that can provided...

I’m assuming all those computers have modems with a telephone line hooked up to them.

You need to install the fax software thru the installation wizard.
Control Panel - Add or Remove programs "“ Add/Remove Windows Components

You may need your win XP disk "“ After installation do a Windows Update. May be a newer component.

On any machine where it’s not working right first uninstall it.

Edit: n I guess it pays to read posts more carefully. Assumed you were using the fax program that comes with XP - that software doesn't support sharing.

The FAX modem is indeed on the server, shared to the network... If the software doesn't support sharing, why do at least 4 of the computers do it just fine?

Must be using some other software - pehaps 1 that came with the modem?

I've been using the win xp fax/software for years thru various computer incarnations.
If you try to share it thru printers n faxes you'll simply get a message. "Sharing is not supported by this type of printer. "

Here is an article from Microsoft...
"Install, configure, and send faxes in Windows XP "
This article explains how to install, configure, and send faxes in Windows XP with a SBS 2008 server

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd346629(WS.10).aspx

Please notice the steps under "To send faxes" How it mentions how to select the Server fax
