For a few weeks now I have noticed that the colors displayed by my monitor change color (hue) for a few seconds then return to correct colors.
This is noticed with the parts of the screen displayed in white and the color changes to a very pastel blue but usually only for a few seconds.
My monitor is a SAMSUNG LCD monitor and the video card is a Radeon 9250 with 128Mb memory and my operating system is Windows XP Home with SP3.

At first I wondered if my monitor was beginning to 'die' but I'm not sure (and hope not).
    Has anyone had this problem?
Could it be the driver (I have downloaded the latest for the video card and installed it without much diffeernce).
Could it be the video card.
How do I test apart from swapping hardware?

More likely to be a hardware problem than a driver problem.

Before swapping hardware - first step of which would be to try the monitor on another computer if possible - remove and reseat the video card. It would not harm to clean the contacts with a soft pencil eraser - down each contact, not across the lot - degrease and refit. Also check and remake the cable connections from monitor to card.

Do you have the monitor driver installed - the monitor.inf file? If Display Properties recognises the monitor by make and model no. then you have - if not locate on the Samsung web site and install.

It could be something as basic as a dodgy cable - I remember changing an old cable for a newer one on my previous PC, and it made a large difference (though the port on the monitor was knackered as well, and the newer one was a heck of a lot lighter...)

    Thanks for the advice.

I have downloaded and installed a driver for my (Samsung) monitor.
Display Properties now displays the monitor and monitor - it used to display the video card and model - it that correct?

I have yet to try reseating the video card and trying a new cable - I did have a dodgy cable (display was showing 'noise' in the display which disappeared when I move the cable) which I only replaced recently although it was one I found at work which could have been old with faults.
The problem experienced (as described in my original post) only seems to have started in the past 2 or 3 weeks well after I replaced the cable.
Anyway I will work through the other suggestions.
I was starting to think that it must be the monitor and as the warrnty expires at the end of the year I wanted to find out exactly what it is before then.

    Thanks

A dodgy cable isn't always apparent at first, plus it could indeed be old and have only started developing faults recently.

    Thanks Pete,

On a closer 'look' the Display Properties actually displays the monitor name "on" and the video card name.
I had missed that at first as the monitor 'name' just about fills the display area and only the "o" of "on" can be seen the remainder (video card name) off the display area.

I am not sure if I have seen the change of color (hue) since installing the monitor driver but if I do I will then try reseating the video card, changing the cable then trying a different monitor (one at a time).

    Thanks again everyone.

    Video card changing colors?

I tried to resurrect a previous post of mine (Monitor changes color (hue)) but it is now too old.

To recap - I had noticed that the display on my (LCD) monitor was changing color intermittently - white would become a pastel blue and then revert back to correct colors (sometimes less than a second and other times a few seconds). Also when this occurred (screen display with a pastel blue color cast) the entire display appeared not to be quite as bright.

In an attempt to track down the problem I decided to install a spare video card and so far (not conclusive) I have not seen any problems. By the way I had started with downloading and installing the lastest video dtiver and also monitor driver .

Has anyone experienced or heard of a video card playing up this way? Does anyone know if a video card can become faulty this way?

I had thought that the problem was with the monitor but maybe it is the video card?

As it said in the notice you received (when you tried to post in the original thread), you should have send a request & we would have enabled you to post to this thread again.

I merged your new post here (the original thread).

    Thanks Arie,
Didn't notice the notice in my haste.
Hey your location is a mystery but according to Google Earth it must be Luga.
