Hi, beginner here. I've been getting 2 error messages:

    AirPlusCFG.exe
The procedure entry point apssearchinterface could not be located in the dynamic link wlanapi.dll

    w2c5ldr2.eze
the procedure entry point apsgetready could not be located in hte dynamic link library wlanapi.dll

I thought these errors started when I did an online update system recently with Microsoft. I did the update right before the last big virus hit the headlines. My Internet is also freezing up on me lately. The page isn't freezing, it jsut won't load, I can move my cursor but I can't get internet access once it does down. I've got to shut my computer, router, modem, in sequence to get it back. Not sure if the 2 are related but I think AirPlus is my wireless card.

Your guidance to help troubleshoot is apprecaited.

    City

I ******* up somewhere. Now I don't have wireless access at all. Here's where I'm at and how I got here.

I tried the recommended driver. It didn't take, so i uninstalled my D-Link software and started from scratch. Rather than use my CD knowing it was outdated I went for the most updated driver on Dlink.com for my specific model (DWL520 rev B). I think I got it to install OK since my computer is recognizing wireless signals in my area again. The computer icon with the 3 waves is back in my tray again though with a red X. I can even see my router signal. When I click on it though it's asking for a password. I thought I knew it but it's possible I don't (since I never had to enter a password in the 4 years I've used this router as it always defaulted). When I enter it in it says limited to no connectivity. It gives the illusion of being connected since you have to disconnent to get off. But I don't think it's connected. I certainly can't pull up a browser.

What should I do from here? Is hte problem my connectivity to the router? Did I do the software and adapter correctly?

I have my instruction manual for the router. Do I need to go through that processs again? Step 1 is to enter an IP address into teh browser and then type in Admin.

Also, do I need to have an ether net cable running from my modem to my router and my router to my computer (assuming I have to set up the router again)? I assume I do to set this up. (I only have a desktop that I'm trying to set up wireless access.)

Or, is there a way to circumvent this router set up and find the password in my computer?

Thank you. Looks like I have a weekend project.

    Craig

To elaborate, it's asking for a WEP or WPA key. I see my router signal and try to get connectivity. It even has a default WEP key and when I try it it says Connected! but I can't get a browser (and there's still a red X). Then I try to change the key to a passowrd I thought it was and the same exact thing happens.

Coinsidentally, my wife just got a new laptop from work. She tried to connect to my router a few weeks ago (when all of my systems were working smoothlyA) and she got the same thing I'm getting now.

    Hi bigcity111,

OK, what happens when you type into the address bar: 192.168.01

Do you get the main D-Link setup page?

Have you re-entered your MAC address?

Have you gone into Control Panel | Network Connections and right-clicked on your LAN the clicked on "Status ", then Properties, then Properties again? How many boxes are checked?
You'll find your DHCP IP Address there.

Or, have you tried "Repair" when you right-click on your LAN?

I take it that your computer doesn't have an ethernet port in the back (fat-looking telephone jack receptacle)? If it does, see if hooking it up directly to the modem makes any difference.

Also, how old is your D-Link? You may qualify for free telephone tech support: 877-453-5465. Or, ask them to direct you to the info you need.

Thanks. So I tried oyur suggestions.

I do have an ethernet portal on the back of my computer. I plugged the cable directly from my modem to my computer and I have internet access.

I tried entering 192.168.01 into my browser (and http://192.168.0.1 as recommended by my manual) and nothing came up. But it should be noted that I do not have a cable connecting my modem and router at this time (since I'm using teh cable for the back of my computer to acces the internet now). Should I go get another cable so I have one from my modem to my computer and from the modem to the router (so I can set up wireless)? I need wireless for my desktop so I don't have to run cable through 2 rooms.

I also went into the Control Panel and clicked on the Tab "Connections" and then right-clicked on "LAN Settings" and nothing happens. So I left-clicked on it. It opens up Local Area Network Settings. NOTHING IS CHECKED. Nothing under Automatic Configuration or Proxy Server.

    Hi bigcity111,

When you clicked, did you see a General tab? Click on Properties in that box and you should see: Client for Microsoft networks; File & Printer sharing; QoS Packet Scheduler; Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

If you click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), Properties, make sure "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked and "Obtain DNS server address" is checked.

On the plus side, you know the modem is working. How old is your NIC card?

Sorry, I'm with you now. Thx 4 ur patience.

OK, so when I click "Repair" (Wireless Network Connection 2) is says: "Windows could not finish repairing the problem because the following action coudld not be completed: Renewing Your IP address

When I go into Control Panel > Network Connetions there are 4 options:

    1) Local Area Connection: Connected, Firewalled -- Intel Pro 100 ...
    2) LAC 3: disabled, firewalled -- cysco systems vpn...
    3) LAC 2: Network cabled unplugged, firewalled, TAP WIN 32...
    4) Wireless Network Connection 2: Not connected, firewalled, Dlink Airplus...

    I assume #4 is mine.

    Status: Limited to No connectivity

    Properties: Everyting is checked

Properties (again): RPC Service with 2 drop downs: Windows Locator and DCE Cell Directory Service

(BTW, I swap out the cable from "the modem to my computer" to "the modem to my router" when I test your suggestions. I swap it back to write on this board)

My adaptor is probably 4 years old. It's been working fine until I tried to get rid of those error messages yesyerday because of Miocrosoft Service package 3.

    AHA!

    SP3 Disables Wi-Fi connection

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953650/en-us

    Or: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/953979/en-us

    Or: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951447/en-us

    Or uninstall SP3: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950249

Or: (800) 936-5700 Tell them that you're having problems with SP3 and that your WiFi doesn't work anymore after the install (make sure to hook it up the way it was before calling).

Or, radical idea, do a System Restore to a date before SP3?

Take your pick of which would be the easiest for you to do.
