Ok, so here's the skinny. I run winxp and i had best buys ' geek squad ' install Webroots anti-virus and anti-spyware program onto my computer that i also share with my family. I have my user account under password protection. So here's the problem. I start the puter up and log into my user account, and as windows is loading and setting up, I get an error message saying this.....

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

    ************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this
application or machine (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
    enabled.

    For example:

    <configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging= "true" />
    </configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine
rather than being handled by this dialog.

.......now i'll admit that i'm a beginner when it comes to computers, but I know that that this msg shouldn't be popping up.
I've already bought and installed RegCure along with the programs that come with it, and through all the fixes and scans and restarts, IT'S STILL SHOWING ERROR MSG AT STARTUP...
Please...please please....help me, at long last, fix this error...or at least , point me in the right direction.
    thanks

Hi noc1. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

The first thing I would do is you should remove Regcure and get a refund on the money you spent on that program. Regcure is a complete scam and it will not fix any problems on your computer or make it run faster. Running Regcure could make your computer run worse. I would suggest that you remove Regcure immediatly and read this article, Why I Don't Use Registry Cleaners.

Also you said that you bought some other programs with RegCure and allowed them to fix your computer. What were those other programs that you bought?

Now for that error message at bootup try this. Click Start< Run and type msconfig and press enter. Click the startup tab and click the button that says disable all. Now reboot the computer. Do you still get the error message at startup? Have you tried uninstalling the Webroot programs and reinstalling them?

    I'm new.

My problem is about the same as noc1's; however, I did not have BB's Geek Squad do anything to my machine. Ever.

Also, the "Unhandled Exception/JIT debugger" message is preceded by/coupled with a "trying to install" message regarding "Photogallery ". This dialog box doesn't have a red circle with a white x in it, and I am able to satisfy it by installing my HP Photosmart C5100 software cd right after it says to insert the Photogallery disk and click OK.

The JIT dialog box/error message (Microsoft .NET Framework) will not go away.

I, too, have installed RegCure. Whether it worked or not, I have no idea; perhaps it was a coincidence that the first few times I did the scan with the RegCure and restarted the computer it was like MAGIC - the errors and dialog boxes disappeared.

    Not so now.

While the computer seems to run just fine, the error message dialog box WILL NOT GO AWAY. It is worse than annoying; it causes a lot of stress for me to worry about what I'm doing wrong...

I plan to try Terminator's Start-Run msconfig idea.

There are about 12 links - maybe more - that direct right to RegCure when you Google the JIT debugger or the unhandled exception message. How is it that this is?

I hope I hear back. I just joined this group today. (Fri May 9)

    Thanks in advance. Best regards,

OK. The msconfig "disable all" and restart did take away the error messages. It also took several of my usual icons off the tool menu at the bottom right of the window. Like, the printer, Norton 360, etc. Are there some launch items I should "enable" now? And if so, how?

Does anyone have any information about getting money back from RegCure? Scams really hack me. Forty bucks for nothing but implied relief. Shall I uninstall the program? Or what?

Thanks for the help getting this dialog box to finally close.

    Seriously and sincerely,

Hi Jeni. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

I would definitely uninstall Regcure because like I said in my previous post it will not fix any problems on your computer nor will Regcure make your computer run any faster. I am happy that disabling all the startup items seems to have gotten rid of the error message. Now all you have to do is go back into msconfig and re-enable each startup entry one by one while rebooting after each one until you find the corrupt startup entry thats causing the error message.

Also I saw that you have Norton 360 installed. I am not a big fan of Norton and have never used any of their products. I would suggest that you uninstall Norton from Start< Control Panel< Add/Remove Programs and download an alternative free security application that isn't a resource hog like Norton is.

Thank you, Evan. What a great surprise to see an answer SO FAST. I have joined other groups with ZERO input after my question goes "out there" - and I've spent countless hours messing things up worse by installing useless software.

What would you recommend I replace Norton 360 with? I am game to do something RIGHT for a change! I've used and depended upon a computer for 20 years (I'm 46, and the day they took away my IBM Selectric and gave me a PC with a black screen and something called "Smart" on it, I was irreversibly both in love with the new thing and terrified of it, and flicked forever outside of my comfort zone. It's like my comfort zone got amputated, in fact! And they keep changing the components and functions of my new miraculous bionic arm...) I think my expertise status is more like "experienced user of things like Word, Excel, Access, Quark, PhotoShop, the web, etc. and nearly clueless dependent on the guts and brains of the machine." But that wasn't a choice, so Intermediate seemed like the closest fit.

Perhaps, if it's not possible for you to recommend one specific thing to replace Norton 360, you could make a list (or direct me to one) of the most reliable free software...? I will start my own search in the meantime. However, I have downloaded other free applications with not such great results in the past and I would like to avoid future problems.

As well, do you know of a list of start-up extension names to go with the actual programs (I fear I'm not wording this correctly) so I'll know if I even WANT to re-enable some of them...? When I looked at the items, it was not at all intuitive for me.

I really appreciate your diligence here. Thank you again.

    Best regards,

Jeni (no idea) (and maybe someday I can change my nickname to some idea) :)

Jeni visit this link, Free AntiSpyware Programs. This list of free AntiSpyware programs has a lot of useful applications which are pretty easy to use. Regarding a firewall I would just stick with the default Windows Firewall. You don't have to use all of those antispyware programs but 1 or two is recommended. I would dowload Spybot Search and Destroy and Spyware Blaster for AntiSpyware. For AntiVirus look here, Free AntiVirus Programs I would recommend using AVG or Avast AntiVirus. Both are highly rated programs. Try AVG first and if you don't like it then go for Avast. Its recommended that you only use 1 Antivirus program. So in total you should have 2 antispyware programs and 1 antivirus program.

Regarding your Starup items, Spyot Search and Destroy has a Startup Manager that will let you manage the programs that startup with your computer. When you open Spybot click the button at the top that says Mode, then click advanced mode from the list. Now click the Tools Button which will open the Tools options. At the right Spybot will show the available tools. Make sure all of them are checked so they show up in the list. Now click the Startup Manager and you can go through your starup items and delete any programs you don't need running on startup. BTW after doing that go back into msconfig and select the Normal Startup option.

Thank you so much for your help.

One more question... do I still "need" JIT debugging to work? Not sure... even what it IS...

    Regards,

    Jeni

PS Wish I could send you a Starbucks gift cert or something to say THANKS. Sheesh. Really appreciate your responses.

Your Welcome Jeni. Glad I could help. You can probably disable JIT debugging because chances are you don't need it. If you have any more questions let me know. If you wish to thank me you can add to my reputation level.

    Hi again, Evan.

Hope you are well. Jeni here... and again I have "no idea" what's happened...

I am using a different computer tonight; my main laptop is completely black now. The screen is like it is off, though the power key is lit. Feeling a little sick... scared I crashed my system.

In the last few days, my HP all-in-one stopped scanning. I'm not sure what happened. It's a family machine and several people have been using it, so something may have gone bad when someone else was on. Yesterday, my son tried to print a pdf download for an instruction manual and the printer said it was "offline" and would not print. Tonight I tried to get the scanner to scan and nothing worked. Tried installing a new driver from the HP cd, as noted in the troubleshooting area of the control panel item "printers and faxes" - it seemed to be an OK thing to do; nothing weird after I did that.

I thought my scanner issue might be due to the "disable all" instructions I gave the computer on the start up items... which included the two HP-related items in the msconfig list (which I now can't remember! Feeling so dumb here). So I enabled THOSE TWO items, clicked OK, and clicked restart. A dialog box came on that said I had to start in "normal" mode... so I did that, clicked restart... and now a black screen. Totally dead.

I can only hope I am remembering this correctly, as it is very late and I was hoping to scan tonight... thinking this would be another simple fix. Very wrong.

In any case, if you can think of anything it might be, would you please let me know?(Like, is it possible that this is a battery-related problem?? The Toshiba laptop is 5 years old and I've never replaced a batter; don't even know if that's an issue... I'm just grasping at straws here...)

Also, my Outlook is on that Toshiba; I commonly use Hotmail on this one: [e-mail address suppressed for personal security - Moderator].

Thanks. Just anything you can think of is greatly appreciated.

    Jeni

Over night it came to me to try inserting the HP printer software disk after pushing the power button, as this seems like it might be a printer/scanner related problem. The CD/DVD drive sounds like it works as normal, but the screen is BLACK. Not a "blank screen" with some hint of light behind the blankness. It is BLACK.

    Thanks again in advance.

Hi again Jeni. Since your new issue is entirely different from the issue I helped you resolve then create a new thread in the proper forum and then I'll see if I can help you out. ;)
