    Hi
The 6 disks are probably recovery disks from a OEM machine, like HP or Dell.

The Windows disk would be the best way to go. I'll see if I can't get a opinion on this drive problem.

    Hi
Please go here and download SIW.

Run it and tell me what it has for your Drives under the Hardware section.

It's a branded system Geri. SIW may not work correctly.

My suggestion is to use the instructions from the manufacturer's printed User Guide/manual or download it from the manufacturer's website. jcmoses can search for ways to run a reformat. Three methods have been mentioned, using the Win XP disk, starting a Factory re-image of the system using the image on the "hidden partition ", a 6 disk "reconstruction" of the system.

jcmoses, you should go to the system manufacturer's website and find information . If you are stuck, ask us.

Maybe I missed it, but I can't see what brand the system is (HP, Gateway, Emachines, Sony, etc).

    Mattman,
My system is an HP DV1000 customized

I have tried the facory reformat that is in the D: partition, but it is defective and i get the blue screen error after using it. I have to take it to the tech afterwards because nothing works after using it, not even inserting a disc to reformat

Tried the windows XP disc, and it says my drivers aren't powered up or something like that.
The six discs I have tried to make but, when I run the program to make them and it asks to select the drive to record them to, it closes as soon as I touch any key

    Geri,
I can't find a drivers section under hardware, what information do you need?

My hard drive is a Hitachi 80GB SATA and something about S.M.A.R.T.

    Motherboard is DIMM 1 Intel(R)CPU T2400??

I am not computer savy, so I don't know what else you need to know

    Hi
Ok when doing a reformat with a SATA Drive your system looks for SATA Drivers. when you start the format it should prompt you to press F6 to load the drivers??

Your Windows CD does not have SP2 on it? correct?

Here is a way to get things rolling.

How To Slipstream SATA Drivers Into XP CD

    Geri,
I got most of that down, I just don't know where to get the SATA driver, or can't find it. My mother board info (to the best of my knowledge)

    Property Value
    Manufacturer DIMM 1
    Model

North Bridge Intel i945GM Revision 03
    South Bridge Intel 82801GHM (ICH7-M/U) Revision 03

    CPU Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2400 @ 1.83GHz
    Cpu Socket Socket 479 mPGA

    System Slots 2 PCI

    Memory Summary
    Maximum Capacity 2048 MBytes
    Error Correction None

Thats how the model number is coming up on my computer as well.

Intel(R) 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller comes up on my device manager under the heading IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers

My knowledge of computers is far excedded by this topic, sorry.
