My desktop is 9 years old and runs Win 98SE.

Looking at various broadband deals, most, these days, include the use of a wireless router.

Will my steam driven apparatus be able to cope with this technological advance?!

Any help would be gratefully received,

    Yes :) and no :(

I'm assuming this is in relation to your Sky query earlier? If so it's usually best to keep all your questions in the same thread so everyone has a complete picture of your problem.

Short answer is yes (routers do not need drivers :)), refer to my previous reply for problems you may have though.

Just curious, whereabouts in Bonnie Scotland are you?

EDIT: I was also assuming your desktop has LAN capability. Most ADSL providers in the UK offer a free wireless router, this does not mean you have to use wireless. Wireless modem/routers also come with at least one wired connection so if your 98 box is LAN enabled you shouldn't have any additional problems other than what I mentioned in your previous thread.
