I recently loaded a PC with a new install of XP with SP3.

However, when I check the system properties, the version came up as Windows XP Service Pack 3, v.3311. I have never seen anything after the Pack 3 portion.

I went to windows update and one of the updates that popped up was XP Service Pack 3. When I had it install, it gave some message that it would not install on that version of SP3.

I then tried to use the full download of SP3 and I got a message saying to uninstall SP3 and reinstall it. Since the CD I used had SP3 in it already, it didn't have an obvious uninstall. I'm thinking it really can't be and was probably slipstreamed into it.

Anyone know what this version is?

    Thanks

It is SP3 RC2 - in otherwords not the RTM (final version)

Ahh, that makes sense. Does this mean I need to reprep the machine with a RTM copy or will the RC2 copy be fine?

Also, after I did some windows updates, it changed to v 5755.

I really don't know what changes were made between RC2 and RTM, but I would imagine they would have been very minor that close to RTM.

With the updates you may be closer to RTM, but I just wonder if running RC2 would prohibit some Windows Updates from being offered. Again I cannot be definitive on that.

If the install was made from a slipstreamed CD I would not expect to see an SP3 uninstall facility as SP3 was not then installed as a standalone service pack.
