My msconfig has 32 entrees. I would like to get rid of most of them. I checked the registry for Run and only found 2 entrees. I want to keep both of them. I do not know any where else to go.

There are several places that items can be started from on a Windows OS. It's best to use a software program as a go-between rather than manually editing the Registry. Most Startup control softwares will allow you to reenable things that you find to be necessary. I use Quick-Startup for that job. It has the added feature of connecting to the home site and telling you what purpose any particular item serves and whether or not it is necessary to have it start up every time you boot.

It can also remove items permanently once you decide to do that. I suggest using that feature with proper respect.

I have little use for msconfig since it's somewhat of a kludge in many ways.

I do not want to add more software. I think the registry must have a way to fix this problem. I will keep looking.

The software surferdude noted or Starter which I use are both effectively registry GUI's in the same way as TweakUI. Far safer to use one of these than to delve into the registry itself.

A friend said to try Kelly's Korner. I found the following.
    Msconfig - To Remove Entries:
For items that were in the Start menu, Programs, Startup folder:
    Start Regedit, Go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupfolder.
You'll find a subkey for each disabled item.
For items loaded from the Registry:
    Start Regedit, Go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\MSConfig\startupreg.
Again, you'll find a subkey for each disabled item.
There they are. I deleted each one at a time, after making a copy of startupfolder and startupreg. So far no problems.
