    Hello,

I used the search function, but the thread is 3 years old and had no solutions in it..

so here's my problem: I got a computer with Windows 98 SE on it and everything is in German. (It was installed in German, not just switched to German). How can I change this?

    Would appreciate any help :)

    Best regards,
    seimen

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I suspect that the only solution is to install the English version of Win 98 SE - it is many years since I ran W98 and I remember little about it :)

However Control Panel > Regional Options/Settings - or similar may have the option, but I would think that the original installation CD would be required.

If you do not have access to an English version of 98 try eBay.

The Regional Options/Settings change didn't help, I tried that before..

Now about the Reinstallation, I would be ok with that, but I don't have any Windows 98SE CD, but I do have a serial code however.. Then I have a different question, are the serial codes bound to a certain language or are those "free for all "?

And, would it be legally possible to download a Windows 98 CD? (I have the serial as already mentioned..)

I can't answer the specific point re. certain language, but I recall that any Win 98 CD key would work back in the days before XP and Activation certainly on English versions. I have no experience of other language versions.
Microsoft has never made that facility available except for betas, etc. You will appreciate that I cannot condone a download from a third party source - if indeed you can find one, but to the basic question is it strictly legal - no.

If you have a friend with a Win 98 installation CD in English I would try that with your key. I very much doubt that MS would be that concerned about any question of legality for a non-supported system - in fact there is no way that they would know.
