    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

It is going to be very difficult to help you fix this problem as most solutions require a program to be run and you are unable to do so. Most programs run from an executable file with a .exe extension - a virus or registry corruption can cause such programs to fail to start.

However there is a possibility that this may be able to fix the problem .....

Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension

I am doubtful that this will work as you say the program flashes up and there are no error messages as shown in the URL above.

As a beginner you would be advised to get help from a computer savvy friend to run this possible fix.

As you do not have a backup of your important data - you will now realise the importance of maintaining a current backup of all important data - the one solution I can offer - and it requires the help of a computer savvy friend or professional help - is as follows ......

Remove the hard drive from the computer and install it as a slave in another computer.

Copy your data off to CD/DVD or USB stick.

Replace the hard drive in your computer and use your recovery disk.

Copy the data back to your computer.

I wish you luck and when this problem is resolved please ensure that you have a current backup of all your important data - particularly your course work :)

If it has happened before, think back to if it may be something you are doing (installing?) to cause it.

You could have fixed it before? If yes, look at how the situation could arise and how to avoid it (easy to say :)).

If you are getting the same problem recurring, it shouldn't be that hard to work out what is causing it.

Be careful, you probably have lots of email, messaging, etc, activity, watch that you are not inviting malware onto your system.
