I tried taking videos for the first time on my Cannon Ixus 750. I down loaded them OK to my computer which is running Windows XP SP3. When I go on to Explorer and just put the mouse arrow on the file name I get an error box up headed Data Execution Prevention which tells me that Windows is closing the application to prevent damage to my computer. I can however load the videos in Nero without any problem. What's going on? Any ideas please?

Check your settings under System Properties > Advanced > Performance > Settings button > Data Execution ..... Is 'Turn on DEP for Essential Windows programs and Services' selected?

As it's a nice day I'll run a test on my IXUS 850 and see what the outcome is - also running SP3.

I am running Vista Home Edition and I get the DEP warnings on occassion. Does it have anything to do with IE8? Never saw it with IE7!

Excellent - but .avi files run in WME (default app) on my PC regardless of the setting - another quirk of Windows maybe :)
I've never seen a DEP warning while running XP - don't run Vista and none in Windows 7 so far. As DEP is allied to the OS and processor I don't think IE comes into the equation.
