Arie, I still haven't voted. With optical into the building and cable inside the building at 100 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up ... ... which radio button should I push?

No idea... probably your connection is similar to FIOS.

    Don't knock it,

I rarely go out with my laptop but my old Jornado can usually be found in my pocket and has been handy on more than one occasion. ;)

 20 USD is about what we pay for bottom-of-the-range ADSL in the UK (with phone calls extra).

Pleasant suprise from Virgin Media this morning :D

"You may remember we wrote to you recently... ", Erm, no you didn't.

"telling you we're going to upgrade your broadband speed from up to 2Mb to a whopping up to 10Mb" :D

I don't care that they never wrote, a nice suprise anyway.

    Gee Wildfire, that's pretty cool.
Now I realise it's quite a jump, but could you have a word w/ them for me? I could use a bit of a boost myself.
    Thx buddy! :)

    Sorry Chas,

I wouldn't know who to talk to :p;)

I knew they (VM) were upgrading their 10Mb/s customers to 50Mb/s but didn't know about the 2Mb/s-10Mb/s upgrade. I assumed they were probably going to bring out a new 10-20Mb/s package to fill the gap.

In reality I'm averaging 6Mb/s from networks across the pond and 8Mb/s here in the UK. And Virgin Media are now trialing a 200Mb/s service:eek:

By the way the above is for their cable network, I don't know what's happening with their ADSL service.

    I checked here...
    http://us.mcafee.com/root/speedometer/default.asp

And it shows me speeding down the internet highway at 200kbps :(

Oh dear! I just checked with your link to see how fast my base model motability scooter would go and I got 500kbps :D. However, speed isn't everything. Since I don't need great speed I would happily choose a slow connection (within reason, and so long as it was reliable) if it came with a price advantage. I always feel that in the UK ISDN was a big lost opportunity.

I don't have any faith in that link, it also said I have 500kbps downlink. Real usage however, does show 6-8Mb/s.

It would be interesting to compare these poll results with a similar one a year or so from now.
