An odd thing. It could be because of IE6 updates. It could be because of something else. I have not been able to track this down to what causes it. gif animations are not animating, they only do once. They should be looping. If anyone here knows what and where in the registery are the paramters that cause gif animations to animate I sure would appreciate the pointer. Elsewise any other information on this topic is greatly appreciated. Maybe it's a dll version or it's some other file..

    Hi wiziwig
    Welcome to the boards!
With IE, select: Tools\Internet Options\Advanced\scroll down to Multimedia section and ensure "Play animations in web pages" is checked.
Any chance you've recently installed some graphics software taht's overtaken the default of your gifs?

Open IE and go to Tools - Internet Options Advances. Is the option to "Play animations in web pages" enabled? If not, enable it and the problem should be fixed. If the option is already enabled, click Start - Run and type each of these in turn:

    regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll

    regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll

You'll see a box confirming the success of each command.

    EDITED (Ha!)

    gif images not animating..

Yes I have IE6 set to play animations in the explorer settings. I tried your suggestions with the two regsvr32 commands. Yes I do believe it was something I installed that caused this.. One one machine that something could of been IE6 updates. As soon as I installed the IE6 DirectAnimation install on machine #2 the animations on my website stopped looping. .they would play once, then stop. On this machine (machine #1 ) the animations stopped working between the time I Installed publisher and another software. Neither of these installs on these two machines should of done anything to break the gif animations I am assuming.. unless somewhere along the line MS is changing something .. The regsvr32 commands did not make any changes to how the animations are being displayed. the gif images still only play once when they are supposed to be looping..

Is it the flag and the mailbox at the foot of your homepage?

No it's everything., the flag, the mailbox, the msg icons. No matter what it is and where it is. I think the front page where that flag and mailbox is, those may not loop. the other animations within the website do. That I know from the laptop which is still playing the animation loops. I also know that from the users..

Clear your TIF and see whether that resolves the issue.

If you are not running XP, try the Repair Tool (Start - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - MS Internet Explorer (double-click on the entry) - Repair.

The GIF's on the page to which you link do not loop for me either. Clear the TIF (yes, you're right about what the TIF is!) on your laptop, reload the page and see whether GIF's still show as animated. You could try loading the GIF's into MS GIF Animator and ensure that "Forever" is checked (under "Looping ").

    gif images not animating..

Thanks. I tried that. I cleared the cache (something I do frequently anyways, since I develop websites.. ) I usually use Jasc animation shop, but for the sake of perfection I loaded the images in microsoft gif animator as you suggested. As I expected each image was checked loop forever. Just to make sure I saved them. I ftp'd them to the website overwriting the existing images. I chmod'd the contents of the entire image directory 777. Still, the animated gif images do not loop. I did discover by using Jasic animation shop that I can preview the images through the web-browser. I only used the internal preview ever before. When I selected preview the image I am looking at dumps to temp and loads imbedded into a temp html file. It animates as it should. Therefore this problem must not be in the operating system, it seems to be in the actual website. I am using YabbSE custom modified for that site. I can't imagine how php code can effect this behavior.. I have not seen this in any other Yabb based sites..

    The mystery continues...

Methinks you're right. Whilst the GIF's on your site appear not to be animated, I can view GIF's on other sites without difficulty. What baffles me though is how, if the problem is indeed with the site, other are (seemingly) able to see the animation?

I'm afraid I'm outta ideas. If you do discover the answer, I'd be interested to hear it.

    Good luck!

Try the front page now Brett, I looped those animations. I've been refering the ones within the bases themselves. Anyrate, those ones on the front page that you been looking at, those are now looping animations. Guess what? even with the cache cleared, they still do no animate on my workstation 1 .. MY GF just annouced her animations are working on workstation 2.. . My NT 4 server using IE4 sees them as looping animations. My laptop is not seeing them as animations. So, it's NT Server yes, Workstation 2 yes, Workstation 1 (this one) and laptop NO..

And this applys to any animation from any area of the site.

And.. the laptop is using IE 5.. I just unistalled IE6 on it, thinking perhaps it was that.. Course,. the workstation #2 is using IE6 so that is not it..

    Are we dizzy yet?? :D
