When i try to close only one of multiple tabs in the same window (but keep others active and window open) it does nothing, and if i click the X again or try using the right-click menu i get an error tone.

At the same time, when filling out forms, i am unable to operate the Auto-fill option on my Google toolbar, nor can i use the tab key on the keyboard to navigate between fields.

Are both of these problems from the same source?

Caution: I am right-brained and do not understand jargon!:)

Hi anielsen. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

What Internet Explorer version are you using , IE7 or IE8? Try clicking Start< All Programs< Accessories< System Tools< Internet Explorer (No-Addons). Can you open and close tabs normally now?

If that doesn't work then open IE and go to Tools< Internet Options< Advanced tab< Reset Button. Is there any difference? If you are using IE7 try installing IE8 and see if it makes any difference with your problem.

thank you...dummy typing here...i can't find the install disc right now...is there a way to check for IE version other than Properties? it doesn't show there. the IE was installed Dec 2007 if that's any indication

i will prob find it by the time someone responds but please be aware i am petrified of reset buttons for some reason ( prob. from my old Mac days-i'm on a PC now)

    sorry for all the hand-holding...:)

ok wierd-now everything works including filling out forms-maybe it was a restart thing? the only thing different i did was select open links/pop-ups in new window instead of new tab. but i prefer the tabs. if i go back (i don't even remember where i did that) and put it back to open in tabs, will the prob return? i.e. should i just leave it alone and use new windows?

If in doubt - reboot. Solves many problems :)

To set preferences for tabbed browsing .....

Tools > Internet Options - Tabs

If you continue to have problems Evan's advice is sound and the same as I would give.

BTW - Reset is painless :)
