I decided to upgrade to IE 8. I downloaded it and opened it I did not save it anywhere. Don’t know if that was a mistake ?
Every thing seemed ok except when opening IE it kept having a window pop up saying something about searches Live search or something to do with what was to be set up as a search perameter. Well I kept trying to figure it out and then decided to figure out what I needed to turn off. I at this time view menu I closed afew of the bars and then like a fool closed Menu bar. After that I can’t get the menu bar back. I have tried the alt button but that seems not to be working for me. Then realized that the right click does not come up with drop down any more. So I restored to earlier date to go back to IE 7. I E 8 did disappear in listed programs but lost tabs on IE and when left clicking it opens a new browser window now instead of drop down menu for copy ,Paste etc. I have tried to reload IE 8 but download dialog box does not open any more. Not really sure what to do. I am using another computer to transfer info from one to another like tool bar cop. I ran this. But did not change anything. I have to use another computer to upload or download to the forums as this computer does not allow me.. I use XP sp3.
I have the info and it is :

Then i folowed other fixes listed below.

The instructions that were poster for me to follow:

Option 1 to fixit auto : No way to get down load Box to show up. When I left click it seems to go to down load Box but never shows up. Even when using cntl and click on below listed link. Does not open anything.
To fix this problem automatically, click the Fix this problem link. Then click Run in the File Download dialog box, and follow the steps in this wizard.
    Fix this problem

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Option 2 : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

o For Internet Explorer: In the details pane, locate the WebBrowser subkey, and then open it. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.
    2. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

The only thing that happened was the Yahoo tool bar was gone. I restored to earlier date to restore Yahoo tool bar. I am using this for the ability while limited to copy and paste. So problem not fixed.
Check whether the problem is fixed. If the problem is fixed, you are finished with this article. If the problem is not fixed, you can try the following:
    Option 2 : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\ShellBrowser
    1. In the details pane, locate the ITBarLayout value. Right-click this value, and then click Delete.
    No ITBarLayout listed

    2. On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

Screen shot showing what page looks like when trying to upload an attachment to you.

I had a similar problem with IE8 on 2 different computers. And in both cases, uninstalling IE8 or using system restore did not fix the problems caused by installing IE8. In one computer (XP Pro) I upgraded to IE8 from IE6, in the other (XP Home) I upgraded from IE7 to IE8. Both computer experienced similar problems.

In both cases I had to downgrade to IE6 and then reinstall IE7. Do you have the option in "Add and Remove" programs to uninstall IE7?

If you have the option to uninstall IE7 in your "add and remove programs" it will automatically revert back to IE6, you shouldn't have to download anything. Then everything should be back to normal. The problems your are describing is almost exactly the same problems I had, except I had one additional problem, I was not even able to get on the internet.

Yes - become a Contributing Member or post on a photohosting site such as Photobucket and post the URL here.

If you are showing IE7 in Add/Remove uninstalling IE7 should roll you back to IE6 - it has always been that way.

Reading back through your posts I see you have SP3 installed - this adds an additional complication ......

IE and Windows XP Service Pack 3
Clearly a problem somewhere first try running IE7 in no add-ons mode - if that makes no difference try a reset of IE 7 - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset.

If this fails make the download on your other computer and try an 'over the top' install of 7.

Ok let me see if i am following you
    1. you have to first uninstall XPSP3, and then uninstall IE7. After this series of uninstalls, you will be reverted back to a XPSP2, and a stable version of IE6, so feel free to upgrade to XPSP3 again. Ok due you think after reverting to IE6 that the dialog download box will show ?
    2. Clearly a problem somewhere first try running IE7 in no add-ons mode . When i do this a blank page appears and does not seem to load.
    3. try a reset of IE 7 - Tools > Internet Options > Advanced - Reset. I can not see internet options. Does not open any more and the Menu tool bar is missing.

    4. If this fails make the download on your other computer and try an 'over the top' install of 7. What does this mean... Download to other computer and i can send it thru email to other and use that to save to desktop and install

I see no reason why not, but that is not a guarantee that it will.
Which suggests a major problem with IE.
Right clicking on the IE icon on the desktop > Properties fails to open the Internet Options dialogue?

    From your second post .....
    URL?

I cannot comment on your Registry entries - I am running IE 8 and have several ITBarLayout listed in the first key and 1 in the second key - I also do not have the Yahoo toolbar, using the Google Toolbar.

The Yahoo toolbar has been known to cause problems - can you temporarily install the Google Toolbar and remove the Yahoo Toolbar?
I would use a USB stick and copy the installation file to a location on the hard drive of the troublesome computer. I suggest you try this first before considering an uninstall of SP3.

Background - the IE7 code in SP3 differs from that of IE 7 in SP2 - effectively SP3 is not aware of the existence of IE6.

I will down load IE7 and save to desk top on good computer and then to stick and then to bad computer and try to install ok. then i can maybe uninstall yahoo and get google ok
