    Hey Everyone,

I have a Dell Dimension E310 that we bought for the wife to mess with. It's about 2 years old and recently began receiving a blue windows screen at start-up. I made a few calls to a hardware support Friend who suggested the drive fried. I purchased a new western digital 500 gig drive and installed it. Everything is good except I'd really like to access the old drive for my grandson's photos and other personal stuff. I left the drive in the machine since there was an addition cable hookup. Is this possible? Can anyone shed any light? Please advise.

    Thanks,

    T

It would appear that the computer has SATA drives - this being the case connecting the drive to a spare SATA header on the motherboard should be all that is necessary. If the drive is recognised then it should be possible to copy any data over.

If the drive does not show in My Computer see if it appears in Disk Management (Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc > Enter). If it is recognised is a drive letter assgned? If not assign one.

if you still run into problems and you really need or want the photos you can run a program called "Sprinrite" on the drive
It may help recover the drive temporarily and give you a chance to recover the data

Good evening everyone, at least here in Tennessee. I tried the things you guys suggested with my recovery, but can not get anything to recognize the old drive. If I go into setup, it looks like the drive is showing, but doesn't show once windows starts. H.E.L.P.?

    Thanks,

    T

That's right Pete. When I hit F2 and look at the drives, 2 hard drives are showing. I'm not sure how I should configure the set up concerning the RAID, so I've left it as is.

    Thanks again for your response,

    T

You only answered half my question :)
    Start > Run > diskmgmt.msc > Enter
