I've recently discovered 'BitDefender'. This software outsmarts both Mcaffe and Norton! it is a very clever and efficient antivirus and firewall software. They too offer a free home version, which comes without the firewall thing.

This program is an incredibly radical conversion from the exclusive virus definition-based scanning, to a more efficient way to find every possible malicious application, integrating a behavior blocker as a main antivirus scanning feature.

Updating virus difinitions is so easy you dont even need to do it! even better is that all upgrades and new plugins gets downloaded and executed automatically with virus updates too, all in one process.

I've been using Mcaffe and Norton for long time, but not anymore, after dicovering this, Romanian I guess, jewel.

So I thought I should let you know. Its at http://www.bitdefender.com

It has mediocre detection capabilities and the firewall component is no better than the numerous free offerings which are available.

It's been a couple of years since I've seen mention of PP. At that time its detection rates were poor:

DOS file viruses (full zoo) 22.4%
    DOS file viruses (ITW) 42.4%
Win98 file viruses (full zoo) 39.8%
    Win98 file ITW 100%
    Win98 polymorphic 83.3%
    Vkit 1.8%
    Win98 Macro (full zoo) 61.9%
    Win98 Macro (ITW) 98.3%
Win NT file viruses (full zoo) 42.4%
Win NT file viruses (ITW) 100%
    Win NT Polymorphic 83.3%
    Vkit 1.8%
Win NT Macro (full zoo) 61.9%
    Win NT Macro (ITW) 98.3%

and it was inclined towards instability.

But maybe things have since improved?
