Firstly I have searched the forums for an answer to this question but found none (hope I searched correctly).

I know how to set file associations but would like to know how to set up file association for a RESTRICTED USER account.

I know that I can set the user account to ADMINISTRATOR, log in and set the file associations and then change it back to RESTRICTED user but surely there is a better and faster way to do this but how?

    Thanks

I had the same problem some time back, but can't find the thread now. In short, in Explorer highlight a file for which you want to amend the association and then, instead of double-clicking, right-click it and select "Open with... ". When it presents you with a list of apps to choose from, select the one you want to associate with this file-type, and check the box "Always open with this app ". That should do it.

(NB: Not sure of the exact wording in English for thse options, as my system is Italian, but that's near enough how I remember them.)

I had forgot about using (Windows) Explorer. I really should use it more than just opening folders and selecting files via My Computer.

BTW I use Ashampoo Burning Suite and found that it wouldn't work for non administrator type users. I posted a message at the Ashampoo site and received a patch which allows it to be used by 'limited user' logons.
    Regards

Well, I use the expressions Explorer and My Computer more or less as synonyms, without really understanding the difference between them. I often suspect they're just two expressions for the same function. In fact, I can't find Explorer (as such) on my Start menu, and suspect it's only another name for what my PC calls "Risorse del Computer ", which I believe is "My Computer" on an EN-UK or EN-US system.

Anyway, hope it fixed your problem (as it did mine) :)
