    Yes - through Add/Remove programs - remove IE8.

If IE8 is still on your computer, it won't let you over-write it with IE7. I downloaded IE7 as a save to file and it put a temporary icon on the desktop. I then used Control Panel :Add Remove" to remove IE8.

I was then able to click on the temporary icon and install IE7, which has eliminated the frequent shutdown problem I was having.

I'm disappointed to hear that IE8 is being "updated" without the user knowing about it, but at least I'll klnow it happened when the "urlmon.dll" scourge starts again.

Thanks Frank, I am having problem with IE7 not connect all the time. I was going to try IE8 and see if it stops the problem, but wanted to make sure I could go back to IE7 if it did the same thing, and look for another solution. I tried resetting IE7 and that did not work.

Perhaps I will download IE7 Save to the desktop, get rid of my current IE7, and reinstall IE7 again, and see if that stops the disconnects, it's driving me nuts.

I had been using IE6 for a long time and was quite satisfied with it. I went to IE8 because the advertising blurb on MSN said it was optimized for MSN.

I had endless problems with it hanging up with a message that said it had "encountered a problem and must shut down ". It was something to do with a routine called "urlmon.dll ".

I picked up IE7 to replace IE8 and it's been fine. I am keeping tabs on which version is on my machine, as I understand MS Auto Updates will put IE8 on if you don't have it.

Thanks guys. Last week I reset IE7 and all my personal settings, it's not quite as bad now when it acts up.

Before I had to reboot every time I could not connect, now if I click on the desktop icon to what ever site I want, if it does not come up the first time, another try or some times two, will finally bring up the page with out rebooting. So far.

Of course, if I leave a tab open after opening a site, there is no problem at all, I can go from site to site with out any problems. If I close all tabs, here we go again.

Better then it was but still a problem some where.
