Why doesn't a new video projector show up in "My Network Places"?

I'm not very experienced in networking, but my church bought a new video projector and the instructions said it could be controlled from the church's LAN. So I ran a network cable from the projector to the router and, sure enough, the projector control panel can be displayed on any PC on the network. In order to display the projector control panel on a PC, I have to enter the network address into Internet Explorer.
But when I click on "My Network Places," nothing related to the video projector shows up. The shared folders on each PC on the LAN DO show up on "My Network Places ", but there's nothing indicating that the video projector is there, even though I can access it by putting the IP address into Explorer. Shouldn't the projector show up as a "network place "? Or do I have to do something else to make that happen? If so, what would that be? Or is there some reason why the projector does NOT show up? Thanks for any comments and suggestions.

My Network Places is a viewing portal for items connected to a SMB network. That is, the devices using SMB to share resources. Such devices are servers, user's computers and some other devices. Not all network devices use SMB, and even some that do might not be sharing resources. So the membership of devices in Network Neighbourhood is always a subset of all the devices on the network.

HTTP - the protocol used for web pages, is a different set of protocol to those used by SMB. A device can use HTTP to provide access to resources without needing to use SMB. Such a device would not automatically appear in Network Neighbourhood. You could create a Internet Explorer shortcut and place it in Network Neighbourhood, if you wanted to.

Thanks, Reggie, that explains it to me. I looked up SMB and found:
File Sharing (SMB) - The most common way of sharing files. The SMB protocol is used by almost all operating systems to make local folders and files viewable from multiple computers.
    -and-
SMB (Server Message Block) A Microsoft - originated distributed system which enables access to another computer's files and peripherals over the network as if they were local.

I "ll put a shortcut in Network Neighborhood to help users access the projector more easily. Thanks again.
