I thought I might try this [I realize there's an argument for not cleaning the registry, but since CC has flagged hundreds of bad links, I feel I may need to do something]. Anyway, has anyone run CC's reg cleaner and have something go bad? Or does it always work fine? Does your PC run better afterwards? My old cleaner never had a problem in six years, everything it targeted to delete went away cleanly. I'd like to hear from anyone with specific experiences with CC. Thnx.

Ccleaner is great, I have never had a problem with it. I have had Cclear for over a year and I have had a problem with something that couldn't come out of the registry cleaner couldn't fix it. So I tried registry defender which cost me some money and my computer runs better, and faster. And I still use Ccleaner and it works fine now. It is great software in my opinion.

I work for a managed services company and CCleaner is one of our primarily used tools for cleaning out a system. I never make backups of the stuff to be removed, and have never regretted it. It is not as aggressive as some other cleaners such as jv16 but it's free, and what it does, it does very well.

Thanks...I've put my toe in the water cautiously, and so far no problem.

Good, glad I could help. I also like jv16 and TuneUpUtilities, but I am not a big fan of paying for them, lol.

Sometimes CCleaner will remove a needed registry entry and cripple your system. Make sure you double check the list before cleaning any registry items and always backup. One should never just blindly allow any registry cleaner to remove any item unless they check on what the item is and know for sure that it is safe to remove.

W...agreed, I always back up. But frankly, I often don't know if a registry item is crucial or not. That's what motivated my question to start with. Thnx.

    Hi chrisw,

Search or ask here if you're unsure of anything. Better to wait and be safe and sure instead of sorry.

I use CC on three XP systems daily. Two years no problems or need to reverse deletions.
Also run Glary registery repair daily after CC. Finish off with ASO reg defrag (not free).
However before CC I run 3S cleaner which is much much faster than CC and is also freeware.

I agree with Whiskeyman. Deleting registry keys without knowing what they are can easily cripple a computer. And there is this, if anyone hasn't read it:
