    Hi
OK this could be one problem. You have two AV's on your system.
    O23 - Service: DvpApi (dvpapi) - Authentium, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe

Make sure you follow the instructions to remove this one.

If you use any of the ones I post in the HJT removal, disregard them when fixing.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (Windows Vista it’s Programs and Features) and remove the following (if present):

    Authentium

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list and post them in your next response

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan only. Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
    O2 - BHO: Yahoo! IE Services Button - {5BAB4B5B-68BC-4B02-94D6-2FC0DE4A7897} - C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Common\yiesrvc.dll
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ad-Watch] C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\AAWTray.exe
    O23 - Service: DvpApi (dvpapi) - Authentium, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium\AntiVirus\dvpapi.exe

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.

    Close HJT.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore "), please delete these folders (if present):

    C:\Program Files\Yahoo
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Authentium

Open Ad-Aware and disable Ad Watch.

    Empty your recycle bin.

    Reboot your computer

I would uninstall and reinstall FF if it still gives you problems

Let me know if that helped.

That seems to have done the trick! (At least for now.)

It started up fairly quickly, only 4 minutes, and doesn't sound like hard drive is running all the time. And I didn't need to reboot at all. That's a plus. I'm going to create a restore point here.

I will keep you posted, Geri, while I give this baby a good test run in the next few days.

    With great appreciation,
    Batya
