    Hello,

I'm currently seeing an issue on some systems I have that are running Dragon Naturally Speaking that seem to have error messages stating that "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." and when details is clicked it shows the following:

    AppName: explorer.exe
    AppVer:6.0.2900.2180
    Mod Name: Comctl32.dll
    ModVer: 6.0.2900.2982
    Offset:00076205

I did find one other post on this board located here and followed the steps in the post but still had no success. The post can be found below:

    http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/81710-windows-explorer-error-message.html

I also went to the website mentioned in there (here is the correct link however):

    https://www.knowbrainer.com/PubForum/index.cfm?page=viewForumTopic&topicId=5225&listFull

So in order to assist, anyone willing to help, I'll post things I have already done below even if they repeat in those forums above:

    • Disabled CFTMON.exe from Windows Office
    • Disabled all 3rd party shell extenstions
    • Ran chkdsk /f /r
    • Ran SFC /scannnow
    • Reloaded Drive with issue and once Dragon Naturally Speaking is installed issue comes back
    • Uninstalled and reinstalled Dragon Naturally Speaking

Just a few others things that I have discovered:

    • This error pops-up when the mouse moves above the taskbar/servicebar.
    • Dragon Naturally Speaking is open when this error appears
    • Event Viewer displays the following messages:

    1. Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module comctl32.dll, version 6.0.2900.2982, fault address 0x00076205.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    2. The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Any help with this would be greatly apperciated!

The information I see is that it comes with an upgraded version of Internet Explorer, if you have IE 6, check that it has Service Pack 1. If you go to Microsoft website, use Internet Explorer, they don't support Firefox.

It is in Windows Service Packs. Do you have SP2 at least?

Check at the Nuance website for the System Requirements for your version of Dragon, for if it mentions version or Service Pack levels.

I saw .NET mentioned. Check if you need a recent version of .NET Framework.

I didn't check about getting that file individually, I prefer to find what program installs/upgrades it and get that.

Let me know how those go. I could not do much searching now. Try searching for that file name at the KB
