Well I spent the day mucking around with some broken laptops, well broken in someways more than others?!
Amongst them I have a Acer Extensa 2300, it wasn't charging properly & won't run without a battery installed, so I was pulling it apart to see if I could recoup some money from it? (well I only paid $60 for it at the local markets)
Any way here it is sitting on the table, no HDD, Screen totally detached & suddenly it sprang to life (I had changed chargers for about the 5th time by now) COOL, plug an external screen in & See if it works? Yep sure does, turn it off & put a HDD in it & see what it will do?

What O/S??????? Give Win7 a go? Why Not!!!!!! Installed & Updated in less time than it took me to install a new O/S & run updates on an old Tecra 8000

Well Now I better not change that charger, but I think I might change the HDD (only 20gb), Ram (512mb), PCMCIA Wireless card which recognised after I installed win7, I think I better re-attach the screen, Now I might even get a new battery & keyboard (it's seen better days) & Internal wifi card

    Take care
    Regards Jac

I have been reading that windows 7 is better than vista, it is a lot more faster and there are other great things about it from what I am hearing. I was told that there are some bugs in windows 7 right now and Microsoft is trying to fix it. But don't hold me to that. But it is great for the most part.

It is somewhat faster, but seems to run noticeably better with less resources. I wouldn't know, my laptop has 4GB RAM & 256 MB video memory, my (new) desktop 12GB RAM & 896MB video memory :D

That sounds great. I wish my laptop has that much. I want to update my RAM I only have 512mb. That isn't much. I would love to get a new laptop with a 4 or more MB, my video card uses memory off of my ram, I think, I have a older sony vaio. It has been a great lap top. I tell you what, it is very stong. What kind of computer do you have Arie? That is amazing 12 mb of ram.

The specs are in my profile. Click the My System link on the left :)

I want that kind of memory because often I'm running 3 or 4 Virtual Machines with different Windows versions simultaneously.

I usually skip a processor family (I never got Core2/Core Duo) on my desktop and previous to that I went from Pentium 2 > Pentium 4, so I have a little more to spend :)

Also, this is my work 'tools', so my requirements are somewhat different then if it was just a 'toy'.

That is funny. But I like it. I looked at the pictures and stuff and read on it, it can do a lot. It can hold a lot. My computer can't do nothing like that one. And I bet it can take some current, 750W, that is a lot I guess, but to run that it will probley need to have that many watts. One day I will be able to get that when I get my money right. I will have to save for that one, but by that time they might have something a lot better because computers update so much, and they change, they add stuff, and all kinds of things.

I agree there in a lot of ways even though you may include my computers in the "Toy/Tool" catagory, like Heartbeat, i wouldn't mind a system like that, but only if i can pull it apart & see how it works (the Toy side of things), and once I put it back together it becomes the other side and what they where designed for a work tool, but please don't tell the kids that becasue they only think that their computers are toys!

One Question Arie, when 7 is released do you think it be available in multi licence packs? Since now I am getting more into laptops we have 3 plus 4 desktops it would be nice if people like myself can save a few pennies?

    Regards Jac

Well I am not Arie, but I can tell you what I think, but from what I know you are limited to the amount of licence or keys, but that is what I think! But Arie would probley know more about it.

Well, MS had a 'deal' with Vista that you would buy a copy of Ultimate you could get up to two copies of Home Premium @ $49.95 a 60% discount. But they stopped offering that after a while. I doubt they have anything that would compare to that when Windows 7 comes out.

    Installed RC1/RTM Desktop & Laptop

Well I've had a bit of a hassle downloading the RTM, and thanks to a friend I now have a copy :)

I've now installed it on my Desktop, gigabyte board running a 775 processor @ 2.8ghz & 1.5gb Ram and my Laptop which is currently running 1.3ghz & 768mb - video (750mb Usable) both 32bit

I gave a friend a copy of the beta and he was Rapt!, I went into see him about a few other things yesterday & told him the RC1/RTM was now available & (mind you the friend owns a Computer Store and in the last week talked to the people that are supposed to know & was told that Win7 would not be available till 2011 REGARDLESS???), He is NOW getting his favoured clients to try it, His opinion of Win7 is it leaves Vista quaking in it's boots?! well I haven't tried Vista, but so far as Win7 is concerned; I will be trying to be first in line when it is released in Australia!!!!

These are my thoughts & experience on Win7, a new O/S, & yours to make your own decision about!

    Regards Jac

Ehhh... you mean the RC build.

Let me tell you: the doesn't know nothing. Windows 7 will be released before the 2009 holiday shopping season (that means well before November this year).

I Hope that is the story here in Australia Arie, I will be calling in on him in the next couple of evenings and will ask him to check his sources, as he was totally surprised that the RC (sorry, not rtm) had been released.

Microsoft OS releases are worldwide. You may have to wait 3-6 months for a localized version to become available.
