Sync Problem in Vista Home: By default, Windows Sync Center wants to, apparently, SYNC your Contacts list via Outlook. However, MS Home & Student 2007 does not include Outlook, or OE. Is there any way to direct Windows Mail Contact's to be recognized by the Windows Sync Center? My specific problem: I have a Toshiba e805 PDA in which I want to import my Contacts. The e805 is recognized (partnership) in Windows Sync Center, and it will import files or folders I place in the Documents folder for syncing. I have the latest versions of SyncCenter and Mobile Device Center. The PDA is running WindowsMobile 2003, 2nd Edition, v-4.21. I've looked everywhere for a solution, Microsoft, Toshiba and various Forums. PS. I have Exported Contacts to a folder on the desktop. I have created both *csv and *.vcf formats. Neither is recognized when the e805 is synced. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. ~Don

Thanks for the response MATTMAN. As to the link you provided. Yes, I tried everyone of those steps. You can set up a 'partnership', but after that, that's when things will not work. When you get to the window that lets you select what items you want to sync, i.e. Contacts, Calendar, etc., you cannot check any of the boxes. Why? Because the sync program is programmed to ONLY RECOGNIZE OUTLOOK. Again, Outlook is not packaged with VISTA Home, or, in MS Office for Students. I'm looking for a way to get the Sync Center to recognize the newer Windows Mail. ~Don

I think you are out of luck. It states
    Not Mail or Outlook Express.

Buying it separately is the only option I could see

I suspect you're correct. I've heard untold stories of how users dislike Vista. I must say, I may now become one of them! Thanks again for you responses. ~Don

By the way, I did install an earlier version but it freezes in Vista. So that's out as well!

Mail is the free email client like Outlook Express, it wouldn't matter what version of Windows you used. They want you to get the "pay-for" version (Outlook).

If you researched, there might be a freeware program that does the same thing. I don't have Office on my Vista machine, I can get by using freeware programs, but Office would be nice. There are many freeware programs coming out for the "cloud" (running programs on the internet, rather than your computer).

Like most software manfacturers, they have basic free programs, but want you to pay for the high-end stuff.

Unfortunately, you will need to play by their rules.

You're right! It's still hard for me to understand why Microsoft didn't give the Windows Mail the same extension as Outlook. I find it hard to believe as well that in all my web searching for answers to my question, nowhere have I found anything relating to this problem of syncing with Windows Mail!

Again I thank you for you replies. I'm going to do as use suggest and look for another program. The way I feel currently is that I don't want to give another dime to Microsoft!
