Every day, its the same thing, boot up the laptop then go to control panel and reset the mouse settings so it will move fast enough. I always click on the "Apply" button then "OK ". Next day, same thing, it just won't accept the new settings as permanent. Any suggestions? :(

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Are you referring to the touchpad or a USB mouse which you have plugged in?

Yes, I forgot, it is the laser mouse that I attached. Laptop is Toshiba, P205D, AMD Turion, with Vista. I know that the touchpad and mouse are running at the same time, is that a problem? I would prefer the mouse over the touchpad.

It should not be - I do exactly the same on my 2 laptops. There is often a button to turn off the touch pad if required.

With regard to the mouse problem I would be inclined to uninstall all the mouse software, reboot and re-install. Check the manufacturer's website for updates.

Also ensure that the correct mouse is selected in the software - I am only familiar with MS Intellipoint software in which the appropriate mouse must be selected.

It would be interesting to know if the same problem occurs with another mouse - of any type.

Have LogiTech Wheeled (corded and wireless - have both types) installed on 4 computers. They would function without installing Logitech software, but MS cursor speed control would not hold settings. Once Logitech software was installed AND cursor speed control was set in Logitech, settings were held.
Recently purchased a Asus 1000HE netbook (my first non-desktop computer - excluding 15x Radio Shack model 100 / 101's used in my business back in the mid/late 1980's) will auto select correctly (in background). If I start up without attached mouse, computer selects mouse pad device/software. If I then attach USB/Logitech mouse, it then auto changes to Logitech device/software. Must say, getting use to a touchpad is a painful experience. But I'm trying to ween myself off of the external mouse when using my netbook.
