    Hi dvond
    Welcome to WindowsBBS

To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:

    1. Start your computer.
    2. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
    3. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.

We tried that as well as trying to boot into msdos, after we see the Windows screen, the error is displayed and after clicking OK, the blue screen comes up.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi
Do you have the WindowsXP CD? or is the Recovery Console installed on the system?

Yes, we tried running the recovery CD and the system stopped, showed the error and gave the blue screen

    Hi
Did you install or have installed superantispyware?

You can Make an avira rescue CD, here's a link to the iso:
    http://dl1.pro.antivir.de/package/rescue_s...m-common-en.iso

Using another computer and something like nero or iso recorder that can handle isos... burn the rescue CD and boot with it in your drive.
It will install a sort of mini Linux-based version of avira that can scan for and hopefully fix any viruses you might have.
When it's done, see if the issue goes away.
