I am trying to Install Windows XP Serice Pack 2 from CDROM. I did manage the bios settings to boot from CDROM. The hardware has an SCSI Adaptor LSI SAS1064 and SATA harddisk ( 74 GB) from SEAGATE, ST908018SM.
I verified that Windows XP CD does not by default have support for the SCSI driver. Also, Windows XP HCL website does not mention support for this make of SEAGATE HDD.

So I had to download the 32 bit XP SCSI driver ( x86) from manufacturer website, and copied to 1.44 MB floppy diskette.

During installation, I followed the instructions that appear and pressed F6 to load the third party SCSI driver.Windows XP after quiet sometime ( to be precise , after loading the USB drivers for Keyboard), was able to query for SCSI driver / adaptor. I followed the instructions and was able to notice Windows XP installation accessing the Floppy disk and copying symmpi.sys from the Floppy.

The installation continued for some more time, and after getting the message "Windows Getting Started ", I hit the Blue screen with message

    STOP 0x000007B (0xf78d 2524, 0xC000034, 0x0000000, 0x0000000)
    and a lengthy message saying
    - Either the HDD is effected with virus / run CHKDSK / F

I did browse through the Microsoft Support ( XP ) site and Knowledge base and verified the cause. One of the solutions suggests to load the SCSI driver and I did that already.

I did examine the MBR of Harddrive. I could locate the magic number 55 AA at the end of 512 byte. In addition also had observed 86 c3 86 c3 bytes around 0x1b0 address. Other then that the 512 bytes of MBR is predominantly filled with Zeros.

Appreciate any pointers on how I should proceed.

    Welcome to WindowsBBS:)

Did you follow the instructions here to the letter when copying the files to floppy (Section 2 onwards)?

A STOP 0x000007B is interpreted as an Inaccessible Boot Device -
Is this a new build or a computer that has run previously?

I would check out the drive using the drive manufacturer's diagnostic software once you have checked that the SCSI drivers were dealt with correctly ....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

Yes, I had followed the instructions provided in LSI website, especially the symmpi.txt.
I do not suspect the harddisk, becoz it was running LINUX before, I ventured to load Windows XP. Indeed ater Windows Installation Fails, I connect the HDD on to Linux Box and using fdisk -l and hexdump peek into the MBR. The drive seems fine.

    Hi ChinnaDvrk,

Just out of curiosity, check the media side of the disk(s). Do you see any little pinholes, wavy lines, scratches or anything that may seem a little wonky?

I ask because this has happened to me on several occasions where something didn't install right, or I got error messages, and it turned out to be the disk.
