I have never seen something like this. I have an eMachine and it was turned on yesterday, but never used. Today when I went to use some software on it, the desktop was just as I bought it.

    - All software is gone
    - All files are gone
    - The User Profile I use is gone..

The software and files are used to run my company. It's all gone? I check my c-drive properties and there is only a bit over 6-gig of stuff on it being the OS and some random content. This is certainly not correct. And no, it was not even plugged into the internet....

    My question to the forum...

    - Is there a way to recover a deleted Windows XP user profile complete with software and files?

    - How the "hel#" could this have happened?

If your User Profile is corrupt and you can locate it .....

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP
Any chance that somebody has a grudge against you and hit F11 on a boot to Recover the system to as delivered?
And you don't have a backup?

Yes, there is a backup, but I need to process pay today.. :) This is just a PITA.

What does F11 on a boot do? Does it really reset the system to "as delivered "???

    Thanks for your input here.

That is a common way of recovering an HP computer to factory default - may not be F11 - it is on my HP laptop and HP tower. There is a hidden recovery partition on the drive which may be invoked by a particular key on boot.

The other suggestion I intended to post was System Restore, but that only monitors system files and not data. I guess you've nothing to lose by trying it, but don't hold your breath.

I can think of no reason as to how your computer could revert to factory settings - as it appears it has - without human intervention.
