    Welcome to WindowsBBS;)

That is normal on some computers using SATA hard drives. Only thing you can do is use the "hide" feature of the taskbar properties.

The C: is your Windows system drive? What type of drive is the D:?

Steve is likely right, I wonder why though?

I will adjust your title to be more accurate for the problem.

I can confirm that SATA drives - which are hot pluggable, will show under Safely Remove Hardware under certain circumstances.

It is, I think, a function of the chipset drivers. On my nVidia chipped mobo they originally appeared, but after an update to the chipset drivers they were no longer shown.

Click the Windows Orb (Start), type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter. Right-click the drive icon (e.g. Disk 0 wording) > Properties > Policies Tab.

Internal hard disk drives use "˜Optimize for performance‘ and "˜Enable write caching on the disk’.

However, a USB "˜drive’ should have a check in "˜Optimize for quick removal’. You shouldn’t need to change anything but if you do, restart the computer.
