I have been having some problems with Excel Spreadsheets locking up PC's or not responding when trying to save the files. There isn't one particular file it's with all excel files. It only happens when the files are opened on a shared network drive. I am running Windows Server 2003 with a Novell Client v4.91 SP5. I remember years ago there was the same issue with Windows 2000 but I cannot seem to find the fix for this issue. Does any one have any ideas what may be causing these lockups? The machines all have at least 2 GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space. Each machine is running XP Pro SP3. Even the space on the server is not the issue. Please Help!

Are you using IPX/SPX as well as TCP/IP?

Sounds like connection issues. Are your network cable runs tested and or certified?

Can you setup a test machine connected directly to the switch with a factory patch cord?

    Scott,
Yes. Network cable runs have been tested and certified. Didn't see a need to connect directly to the switch it worked fine just a couple of months ago.

    Reggie,

Not sure. I'll check and get back to you. Could IPX/SPX and TCP/IP not be playing nice together?

Comments like that always ring alarm bells in my head. The point is, it isn't working now.

The more protocols, the more traffic, the more chance of error. You are better sticking to one protocol suite.

Why do you have the Novell client? Can you remove it?
