According to Netscape I have the Beatnik Player. I cannot find it in my computer. I want to find it and uninstall it as I think it is preventing me from hearing sound in WMPlayer when I play midis. I did not heve this problem until I installed NS 4.78.Where is this Beatnik thing hiding.

BTW...the same problem used to occur with Crescendo until I uninstalled it...

According to NS I do not have the Quick Time Plug in, BUT I do and it is installed.

    Thanks as usual...:(

    Hi Dixie,

    Those files would be here:

    C:\Program Files\netscape\communicator\Program\Plugins\NPBeatSP.dll
    C:\Program Files\netscape\communicator\Program\Plugins\NPBeatSP

When you do a Custom Install of Netscape, you can deselect Beatnik.

That's what I looked for but it wasn't there...All that was there was something called Beatnik.class, which I deleted...there was no beatnik.dll in the computer either.
Netscape also told me that I did not have Quicktime or Acrobat reader, but I have both of them...they must be as fouled up as CNET's Catch-up... Thanks, catcha,:p

I am going to try one more thing...will try to reinstall the crystalwave synthesizer from the recovery disk...if that doesn't work I will throw the computer in the snowbank!

    Dixie,

Open RealPlayer and be certain that the option to play midi files has not been checked. Do the same for MMJB. RealPlayer has the propensity to take over everything. . .

What is this "catch up "? I'd hold off on reinstalling your files from the Recovery Disk, until you have thoroughly checked the configuration for each player you have on your system, to eliminate the possibility that said player has taken over your midi and mpeg files.

I see that you also have a thread going on the Applications forum related to Media Player 7.1/01. I would continue there.

    Good luck!

    Ramona

    Dixie,

In My Computer, click on View|Folder Options
Click on the File Types Tab

    Scroll down to Midi Sequence

What program is shown? That will be your default player for midi files.

I don't really see what Catchup has to do with the problem but....I have used Catchup frequently and find that it is always telling me to update things when I already have the update, and that it tells me I have things that are not even on my computer, so I stopped using it...
I don't understand what it has to do with finding the Beatnik files?????

Thanks hewee! :) I don't like that type of program. Just too paranoid.

    Dixie,

Catchup had absolutely nothing to do with Beanik. I was curious, and hewee was being helpful. :D

    Ramona,

I had CatchUp on my old PC and used it but only to tell me about things. You have to watch out and check out that the updates they say are new are really for your PC version of windows etc.

By the way it is part of Norton Web Services too now.

    http://nortonweb.cnet.com/

There is another program that I hear is a lot better and also free to use.

Will have to find it and post it.

    yankee1620,

Remember just because there is a update does not mean you need it. Who needs a update to a program when it's only so you can print out to an xyz printer if you don't have an xyz printer.

Thanks Hewee...I am very cautious with updates. Even with Windows updates, I only get them if they are security updates or if they correct a bug in the program. If a driver is working with no problem I do not get an update for it. I am a firm believer in *if it ain't broke, don't fix it.*
Sometimes the fix just creates more problems...I will check out that Norton site...I have found that Norton products have more bugs than bananas have fruitflies...

I get all my Netscape fixes from Ramona...she is very patient with dummys!
