I've got two DVD recorders on my Vista Home Premium machine. Until late last month they worked correctly, reading, writing, and formatting as needed. Then they both quit doing anything but open a pop-up window with the current date and the command "format ".

I can't open the disc in Control Panel; Explorer; (File)(Open); as Administrater or anything else.

I'm at a loss as to how to remedy this. I've tried System Restore several times with the same negative results.

ANY suggestions will be gratefully accepted and tried.

    Matt

Thank you for your suggestion. After reading through the article, I found another article that looked familiar.

In my "security mania" I reset the Registry to not allow AutoRun. The article looked like something I recalled doing. After opening the correct registry entry, changing the value from "0" to "1" and closing the registry, rebooting, and holding my breath - each DVD recognized discs and responded appropriately.

I wouldn't have located the second article if not for your suggestion. Thanks.
