I went to follow your last instuctions last night and I had problems booting up my computer. I was not able to get to my password enter screen. Only getting a blank screen with the pointer. Tried doing an XP repair from the install disk and was unsucessful. Not sure what to do at this point.

Try starting your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration option.

    Please follow these steps:
    • Start your computer.
    • When you see the Select the operating system to start message, tap the F8 key.
    • When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the arrow keys to select: Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
    • Press: Enter

Can you boot to Safe Mode?
    • Restart your computer.
    • When the machine reboots, tap the F8 key before Windows starts
    • You are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
    • Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
    • Press Enter to boot into Safe Mode.

Try booting into Safe Mode first.

If you cannot boot into Safe Mode either, the Recovery Console is installed in your system.

Let’s take advantage of it, and do the following:
    • Restart the computer
    • Before Windows loads, you are prompted to select which Operating System to start
    • Use the up and down arrow key to select Microsoft Windows Recovery Console
    • You must enter which Windows installation to log onto. Type 1 and press: Enter
    • If you are prompted to enter a password, simply click Enter.

Now, at the C:\Windows prompt, type the following bolded text, and press Enter:

    cd erdnt\subs

At the next prompt, type the following bolded text, and press Enter:

    batch erdnt.con <this is an 'n', not an 'm'

The ERUNT (Emergency Recovery Utility NT) backups should begin copying.

At the next prompt, type the following bolded text, and press Enter:

    exit

    Windows should now begin loading.

Never was able to get anywhere with the computer. Ended up reinstalling my windows XP. This of course seems to caused some problems like my network adaptor does not show on the computer and the sound does not work anymore. I am told that the drivers are most likely gone. My modem is an ethernet connection that I am told does not use a driver. The thought is that the adaptor card is now bad. May try to replace my self or take to a repair center.
