    Hi.

I've got a Maxtor One Touch 11 external HD. It's been a while since I've used it, but it did, at one point, work on my pc.

I've got it installed, no blinking blue light that would indicate it malfunctioning, and is recognized in the device manager, but not in "my computer "...

I called Maxtor, after following all the troubleshooting tips on their site, and the girl suggested that since it's out of warranty, just crack the case and just put it in the tower.

    1. I would really rather not do that.
    2. Should I do it?
    3. Anything else that you guys would suggest?

    Thanks!
    Heather

You will need to tell us what you have already tried. For example, have you tried connecting it to another computer? Maxtor One Touch has a (security) program associated with it. Do you have the software CD that came with it? I have used these, but you might have a different model:

but the Lite software, I found, worked for for the Mini. If the software is already installed try uninstalling, then reinstalling it.

If it is a type where power is supplied by a second USB port, I suggest you get a self-powered hub to connect it to.
