Can anyone suggest a SIMPLE software package for CD Burning ? I have Nero 5.5 ? ? ? but don't seem to have much luck with it. I have a CD Rom drive as well as a CD R/W drive. I want to be able to burn music and data CD's.

You may like to play with a few until you find one that is user friendly to you-what one person finds easy another doesn't. Here is a list of CD Burners available on the CNET network-you can use filters for freeware , system and so on with the list and use any of the headings for sorting-there are 39 burners on the list :

If you haven't updated Nero in a while, and if you are eligible for one, the updated ones contain Nero Express (as well as a virtual CD, which can be handy). The Express is very simple. It asks a few questions and off you go, if all you want is a simple music CD, for instance.

Considering the problems I have seen with Roxio (even 2 brand new computers had the software disabled due to problems with it) like disappearing drives, blue screens, and the near impossibility of uninstalling it all if you change your mind, I'd recommend Nero, Padus DiscJuggler, CloneCD, or RecordNowMAX before Roxio. I have them all installed and they live peacefully together.
Of course, XP's native software still works fine and using Media Player to make music CD's is easy. With the Mp3 Bonus Pack, you can save CD's as mp3's, too.

PS. I just realized that all these burners I mentioned may not burn music CD's. I always use Nero Express for that. Better check their sites about what they do.

I've used Roxio on two different machines, both with WinXP Pro and both have worked fine for data and music burning. One machine has an old HP i8250 and other one has a Samsung drive (not sure who's label it is, just checked Device Mgr).

Thanks guys..... haven't tried 'em all. RecordNowMAX seems to work great for me so I stayed with it. Very easy to use, even for a dummy like me, so I didn't bother going any farther.

    Thanks again, appreciate it .....

Glad you found one you liked. The differences aren't that great between them for most uses---if they work right and you get used to them.

Some people swear by Roxio, too. I just swear at it.

    Have fun!
